I have a question that I'm not sure anyone can answer. If Lecavalier has a facial contusion, why can't he play with a full shield?

I don't disagree with you. But last night was pretty bad. I'm usually optimistic and level headed about the team. I'm disgusted by their effort last night. I'm really hoping that there is some kind of team mental issue here. Because the alternative is frightening.

I dont believe there is any factual information to promote the idea that this isnt a simple mental issue. They will pick it up, and lead us to the promise land.

the GM has had no cogent plan for a few yrs now, but i never thought it would be this bad. horrible mix of plyrs from the D on out...
- isaiah520

You act like a GM can script moves and plan out exactly what he's going to do going forward. A team is built by drafting and developing players. Perusing the trade market, and Free Agency, and other avenues. No GM can put a plan in place, because what moves are made going forward, is unknown. And what is available is unknown.

For example, what cogent plan can Holmgren put together to replace Pronger?

More like a combo of Jones & Davis.
- ob18

More like Davis... Jones really is a buffoon. While I have become a critic of snider i do respect him and think he's just past his time like Davis. Jones won on the coattails of a Jimmy Johnson draft day heist.

I don't think there is any factual information as to what this team's issue is. But they are extremely fragile as a team. And they crumble under the smallest amount of adversity. And they simply stop competing as a team when under duress.

I understand he's day to day. But that doesn't really answer the question. And I don't know that anyone can.

Yea but homer has made moves that aren't smart and high risk . See trade for pronger and attempt to offer sheet weber. When weber fell through they had no contingency and let a valuable piece walk in the meantime. With pronger I'm sorry we grossly overpaid.

Would be good if we got to see a picture.

Quick guess from me would be that he has eyesight issues due to the swelling, and pain more than anything. There are always risks with that kind of injury related to brain trauma. They probably want to keep him out to make sure. A big hit, and capillaries that have had their integrity compromised can start to bleed. The extent of the injury with facial contusions usually isnt 100% clear immediately.

Healing time usually isnt too wild, so I dont expect him to be out long term. Who knows though.

Y? I wanted to a while ago. He is a secondary piece as evidenced by his utter inability to elevate against stiffer competition. Sorry as a second liner he'd be much better... Top line aint for him.

I disagree that they grossly overpaid for Pronger. That was a great trade and I hope if a similar deal comes up in the future for a game changing player like Pronger, that they make it again. You can't see how much this team misses Pronger and how it has changed the team, not having him in the lineup? That is why you trade for a Pronger when you can. There's no such thing as contingency plans. There is only what is available, and you make a play for it and see what happens.

Are you completely discounting that Giroux has elevated his game against stiffer competition in the past?

Yea I can see how much they miss what they traded away too. You always preach that cohesive teams win not individuals... I'd say the flyers sacrificed way too much in getting pronger.

That's a trade that you have to make every time. Pronger was a game changer. And he elevated the Flyers to a true contender.

Did he not elevate his game against the Pens when we dropped them in the playoff two years ago? Come on dude, try looking past a 12-game sample size.....

Downie's actions in the game, had zero to do with a lack of discipline. He came to the aid of a teammate, and sacrificed himself to do so. And paid for it with a concussion and a broken orbital bone. If anything, I like the deal even better. What he did showed the strength of his character, not his lack of discipline.
- MJL

Can you favorite comments?

That action he took is gonna be a quick bonding tool to help get him assimilated into the locker room quicker. He's played one game and he's already suffered a horrible loss, fought for his teammates, and bled for them. He's gonna fit in nicely here.
