Garth: Thank you. Enough is enough. I get the rebuild but they've gone too far. Then talking about trading Moulson, Ott and Erhoff? poop is crazy. Thanks Terry, at least we have a building. Hopefully we can get the NHL back in Buffalo soon and not wait as long as Minnesota did.

As per Ted Black - "we have 4 teenagers on the team, we have a multitude of 1st and 2nd round picks, no other team can say that". Relax Sabre fans your team is in good hands with Darcy running the show.

Any Sabre fan that's buying this is a sucker. This is the worst non expansion team in the history of the NHL. The great thing about this is it's only going to get worst once they trade Miller. We're in November folks, enjoy the next 5.5 months knowing you have a couple of 1st and 2nd rounders.

This is coming from a fan of a certain team which did not make the playoffs FOREVER!!!!

Don't you guys have two first round picks? Shoot, trade Miller and you could get another one. Why on earth would you want to battle it out to finish 10th? Dont's listen to Garth he seems like an angry old man all the time.
Remember this is the East with 16 teams. Do you really think Buffalo has a chance to leap over 8 teams? Not worth it! Tank the season and get a boat load of nice picks in the draft.
I have a feeling that NYI pick is going to be a top 10.

Man, Ekblad with Erhoff, Myers, Zadorov and Ristolainen? Not baaaaaddd....

- Captain_Quiffe

We won't be taking Ekblad. It'll be a forward. Reinhart at this point.

Please do not "fix" my posts as a quote.

REGIER needs to be fired, then the new GM has to come in and pick a new coach. Do you really trust Regier to pick another coach? He had opportunities last spring to get a good coach (re: Roy??) but chose a clone of himself.
REGIER is the one who has picked all these players, the coaching staff and even the scouts who advise him to pick up these stiffs, i.e. Grigo.

FIRE RONNY NOW!!!

I agree with above poster, this is actually a good blog Garth, because it is about the Sabres and it doesn't contain contrived dribble with players nicknames or I did this, I did that garbage. Just write about the Sabres, you actually sounded like a fan.

Sabres are on the right track, once the younger players with upside begin to develop older vets will want to come here, all kind of hinges on the next 2 drafts, think it will be this long unfortunately.

Hey at least we're not the Leafs !!

They'll spend a ton of dough, barely finish in the top 8 and flame out in the first round. Then their fans will come on here and say 'Hey, we're at least kinda good but you guys suck !

I want to win a Cup. I could care less how the next two seasons finish out. Just rip the rest of the bandaid off by trading Miller, fire Regier in the off season and have solid drafts the next two seasons.

It might take four seasons to compete but at least it's being done the right way, albeit a very painful way from a fan perspective.

Garth - I have to hand it to you, this is probably the best (if not the most emotionally engaging) post you've had on this site in the past 2 years (IMO anyways, which isn't saying much). Anyways, what I'm surprised you haven't taken to on here is the big deal that was made about Matt Duchene stating his talents were essentially held back by Joe Sacco and his system. When I look at this team and (prior to Vanek deal) see minor changes from last year's roster... I can't understand why they're playing so significantly worse. Maybe Sacco has something to do with it more than we're considering. I mean, Rolston ran the team for the majority of the shortened season last year. They didn't look this terrible that whole time and while I get that they miss Pominville, I don't really believe moving Regehr and Leopold really hurt the team that much. This team is playing like what the Avalanche looked like the past 2 years, especially last year. Now if we brought in Sacco to secure the top pick (like the Avs had this past year's draft) then so be it. But I'm floored that I haven't seen one parallel between the Duchene story and Sacco coming to Buffalo and how horrible this team looks nearly every night now. Seriously, think about it... makes a lot of sense.

What about the 3 or 4 after that?
Hawks and Pens had 5 or 6 years at bottom of league and Hawks had to sign Illegal contracts(Hossa and Campbell) and bury Huet in minors.

Pens got Lucky and drafted 1st and 4th or 5th best players in league in back to back years. (maybe had some help winning Crosby lotto from Bettman.

Both teams had great 2nd thru 9th round drafts in early 2000's also.

You guys are looking like a mix of the Panthers and Blue Jackets for the next 500 games or so.

HAVE FUN! F N Center will have tumbleweed blowing through it.

PS Leafs Ashton suspended 2 games so quit whining that league has TO bias

I only whine that Montreal has league bias.

Edit: I actually went back and did some research which is rare... In the 2000's Pitt and Chicago each only had what I would consider 'bad' seasons where they finished near the bottom four times. Obviously Pitt got lucky with Sid and Malkin however the jury is still out on them because they've only won 1 Cup together. Chicago drafted well and got Toews and Kane, Keith, etc.

Bottom line is you have to draft well and be lucky enough to score a franchise player in the process. To say Buffalo will be in bad shape for 500 games is just bias against the local rival that's been kicking your teams ass for the better part of 2 decades.

I'm fine with losing every night. To really change the look on the ice we need a top 3 draft pick. And in that reguard, I hope we're worse next year. If you ask me, Rolston is exactly the coach you want behind the bench through next season. He is not a good hockey coach, but teaches young players well. So we hear. So lets keep him and Darcy through next season. Because let's face it, I could choose the draft picks we'll be getting in the first round the next two drafts. Then after we shoot for Connor McDavid in 2015, we can get rid of both Darcy and Rolston and put the real management together. Even if we miss on McDavid (which we will, c'mon it's Buffalo) we'll still get a true impact player. And that's what we need.

Both of those teams really have 2 franchise players. And the Hawks cheated their asses off(going by today's CBA) to get where they are.

For years I heard about how great the Sabres are compared to the Leafs. Now when you guys are rebuilding its how Leafs are spending a ton of money to be a little above average.

Depending on lineup Leafs are in the youngest 3 or 4 teams in league. Only gonna go up in next few seasons.

Ok maybe 500 games was a stretch but if you really tank its gonna be at least 300 games of what you saw last night with maybe one star in the mix when he's only 18 or 19 years old. Gonna be some long seasons for you guys the next few years.

I just went through 7 years of almost making playoffs to really bad to finally on the rise.
Nice to see that Leafs will stand a chance to win in Buffalo for the next few years, although I think you guys may win on the 15th. Gonna be like your Stanley cup this year with the nonsense that went on in the preseason.

You guys will find out who the real Sabres fans are and who the wanna be's are that jumped on board in 06-07

Look, the only people that want Darcy Regier around are Terry Pegula and his advisors, and perhaps a few homers that live under a rock. It's common knowledge that has been repeated ad nauseum for ages that Regier needs to go. Unfortunately, that's not going to change. However, regardless of the GM, the team's performance under Rolston has been atrocious. It's one thing to assemble a sub-par team. It's another thing to have it look incredibly clueless for 40+ minutes a night. There's a lack of talent, and then there's a lack of preparation. The latter should never be the case. He needs to be fired as well.
- buffalofan19

Yes, he needs to be fired but Regier needs to go first and allow a new GM to choose his own coach. Look at the lousy job Regier did picking this one, why trust him again???

FIRE DARCY!!!
