Talbot was in no way shape or form a top 9 in terms of scoring... But he was an excellent pk specialist and checking forward let alone being quite durable... If they wanted downie they should have moved something like Rinaldo or got better for talbot. - JoeRussomanno
What do you think is fair value for Talbot? A 4th line grinder who is a great guy and PK specialist? When I first saw this, I said wow, the Avs gave up a lot for Talbot.. |

After they screwed with the best player they ever had (Bure) and then brought in Messier I totally lost interest in that team forever. - rockychocbill

He's mediocre just like the last two teams he's been on... That's great Colorado got off to a huge start... Let me know where they are in the spring... Prolly playing golf with our squad and watching the playoffs later. - JoeRussomanno
The last FULL season, 2011-2012..
Detroit finished the season with 5 players breaking 40 points..
SJ-5
Mtl-4
Col-3
NYI-5
Pit-6
NJ-5
Phi-6
OTT-4
Thats just the few teams I looked at.
That means his career avg... as NFG posted... 17 G 28 A 45 points over 82 games would have been good enough for 3rd line on every team, and second line on all but 2..
edit: looking back, his avg would be good enough for 2nd line on all of those teams, strictly point total wise. |

Pretty much this.
Laughton was going to be eating into Talbot's role next season and beyond as well... irrespective of what they decide to do w/ Downie after this year. - Tomahawk
Another good point. If this season doesn't improve, Downie can be moved at the TDL for a decent asset. |

Downie said he really likes the fans in Philly, so you know not sure what else you can ask for really. #tradewon |

Apparently he's been a great contributor to his two most recent teams. Yet they have both found reason to shed him. That adds up to 3 chances by my math. But you're right, it can take some people a LONNNNNG time, even a lifetime, to mature. The Flyers have always loved bringing their ex-wives to the party anyways. Why should this surprise any of us I suppose. - rockychocbill
Sorry Bill, but the bias is clear. Downie may or may not work out here. But I'm going to be objective and see what happens. |

Sure. Do you really think that game will be worth $200? I only bought them because I had a $100 Ticketmaster GC burning a hole in my desk drawer since last Christmas. I should have bought tickets to the Nutcracker. Oh wait............ - rockychocbill
worth $200? probably not, but its a chance to see them this year...

Simply stating that Downie is better than the worst 3 forwards in a team's starting lineup isn't that outlandish of a defense - mcefalu
No, but the outrage/disbelief that (too) many folks here have that some of us just don't like Downie the player and their trying to cram his stats down our throats with each and every post is a bit tiring. |

I hear he was just one the Fan590, and said he's always dreamed of playing for the Flyers a second time after being traded away. |

Im not picking anything a part.. I just was wondering what your thought process was on why you dont think he is a top 9 player, when statistically speaking, and where he has played his entire career, beg to differ. |

Scoob, it's been stated that it's okay that someone doesn't like Downie, because of his past. But that doesn't change the facts of the deal. And that the Flyers got the better player in the deal. |

The fact they use his stats as a defense baffles me...
It's like getting a potential employee referred to you and on his résumé it says border line failure in school... Misses work constantly has mediocre work.. Yes let me hire him! |

Wow, Giroux's had a bad start and needs to get going but, I don't think he's overrated, nor should we be looking to move him or anything like that. I don't want the team to start another overhaul like the Carts and Richie one.. I also don't want Homer making too many moves from this position of weakness. |

Downie is 25. If we can keep this teams core and deal with the growing pains... I completely agree with Homer. This teams has immense potential in a few years. Just need smart timely moves. |

Who, Giroux? Not sure how much flopping you can do from the perimeter. |
