....... re: last night's thread.

You can have the Giroux WC jersey for $125 and I'll throw in my Nike Lindros.

So Hall and Downie in. Talbot and Rosehill out? I can live with that
- Just5

amen.
there are so many positives to this deal i almost can't believe this many folks are on the fence or against it.
talbot is good but i think his days of offensive dominance are behind him, and his worth relative to his salary in the next couple years becomes a problem.
downie is a guy that can play meaningful minutes an is a threat to score or crush someone every shift, which will put some doubt into other teams players and possibly give our guys a lift.
plus if downie can crush one of those pu$$ies from pittsburgh (suspension of not) then it would automatically be a win for me.

Sure. Do you really think that game will be worth $200? I only bought them because I had a $100 Ticketmaster GC burning a hole in my desk drawer since last Christmas. I should have bought tickets to the Nutcracker. Oh wait............

Something to consider for those who oppose the Downie trade. Imagine let's say it was the other way around and the Flyers sent Downie to COL in exchage for Talbot. How would you feel? I think you'd be lying to yourself if you felt it was a good trade for the Flyers, shipping away a top 9 forward for a 3rd/4th line checker/PKer. I realize its not black and white, that Downie may not have been given top line mins here right away and therefore may not have 7 points.

I think a lot of folks will complain no matter how good or bad the deal is. I'm sure many here have seen their favorite player traded away days after getting their jersey (Brind'amour/Williams/Richards for me) but in the end this is what makes me love this team. They're interesting and always active, to a fault at times, but becoming less emotional attached makes the trades easier to stomach.

I'm by no means proclaiming the Flyers won this deal hands down but I do think its a good move for the most part. Gives them more options in top 9 and I feel Raffl is already close to replacing what Talbot brings.

Edit: Sorry was back reading previous thread and saw Crims brought up this same exact point. Leight/Laught it is...

Just wanted to bring this up this morning. With Hartnell's long contract and the talk about converstaions with Edmonton. Would you send Hartnell to Edmonton for Hemsky?

Downie and Zac need to play smart
Rinaldo was doing well last yr, communicating with the refs and not mouthing off after getting a penalty.

I've heard some rumors that Downie has been mouthing off after bad calls and maybe getting in trouble over it.

Lappy and Chief likely have some work to do with him in this area.

- Marc D

yeah, the one clip they kept showing it looks like matt duchene is just putting up with listening to him and then another player skates over and he smiles and he high fives the guy. maybe nothing but he might be a guy who is hard to be around

And what most analysts and some of Downie's former coaches who have made similar remarks are smoking too, I suppose.

What team has the best record in the NHL?

Now tell me, until yesterday morning what three players were skating on their top line?

If I remember correctly, the Flyers ARE the team with the second worst record in the league.

Hell, Downie might be too good to play on this team.

Just curious... does any team have more former members of Team Canada U20 on the roster than the Flyers?

- Mason,
- Coburn,
- Pronger,
- L. Schenn,
- Couturier,
- Downie,
- Giroux,
- Lecavalier,
- B. Schenn,
- Simmonds.

Talbot was an alum too.

He's had one season... 4 years ago almost where he broke 20 goals... Is injury prone and takes dumb penalties ... Yup just what we need...

There is no doubt he has the skill set of a top 9 forward. Even a top 6 forward on a weaker team.

It still doesn't diminish the fact he needs a slash across the teeth and a cross check to the back of the neck. Preferably at the same time.

He's just one of those polarizing players. I just wish he was on the South Pole.

Still waiting to hear how he ISNT a top 9 player, when in fact the last two teams he played for.. he was pretty much a mainstay on the top lines..

I'm really having a hard time looking at those stats and saying "yea he's the missing link..." Or "top 6 forward"...
