i don't see signs of ryane clowe syndrome so I'd rather wait and see if he can build up his value...and help us in the interim.

Just wanted to bring this up this morning. With Hartnell's long contract and the talk about converstaions with Edmonton. Would you send Hartnell to Edmonton for Hemsky?
- youarewrong

No question about it. I think if Hartnell goes on waivers right I'm not sure if anyone claims him. If were trading him were likely to get another grotesque contract in return

I just feel like the flyers love hartnell despite his short comings in certain areas

stick was above the bar and he obviously kicked that puck up. both plays went to the 'war room' and were called properly. the correct call was made on both and i don't think having non-goals disallowed is the same thing as a team scoring the go ahead goal on a hand pass.
- hogweed

Both were very close and I've seen similar plays allowed as goals.
FWIW I think they made the right call on both but I'm an orange homer.

Sorry let me clear something up. I consider
Rocky Choc Bill a friend and I was speaking for him. Probably a mistake for me.
He hates the trade because he doesn't like Downey and likely feels that guys who are predators and head hunters have no reason to be in the league.
Sorry for any confusion.
Personally I am willing to give Downey a chance.
But if he turns into Matt Cooke I won't like it either.

- Marc D

He actually is a lot like the newer version of Matt Cooke.

He probably get claimed by the pens put up 40 and win a cup. And then we could cry about it. Stay or go somehow it'll be the wrong move. Then hextall will come in and be loved for a year, maybe two. Then...

after having 24 hrs (well almost) to digest the trade, I am on board and boarderline excited at the thought of having Downie back and seeing where he fits in (def want to see Downie-G-Bunny). My feelings don't change about being sad to see Talbot go but I like what this move does to the top 9.

I've enjoyed watching Colorado and they will definitely be my western team to root for

I don't know what will be more entertaining, seeing downie tonight or this board after the game

Pronger, Hartnell and Rinaldo are all jackasses... do you not cheer every time they chirp, face-wash, and/or put somebody on their ass?

I get that Talbot is a cute, lovable teddy bear, and Downie is like a yucky half-eaten squirrel that your cat brought home to you... but that doesn't stop the trade from making sense from an on-ice perspective.

Flyers needed a top-9 winger now, they had Hall as a healthy scratch, and they'll have Laughton coming in next season... Talbot's a nice player to have, but he was completely expendable, now and in the future. They got a nice player back for him -- I'm happy.

- Tomahawk

See above
I've posted that I think they won the trade.
Downey average 42 points/82 games
Talbot average 24 points/82 games

Downey expiring UFA
Etc
I love Max but don't romanticize his value
They will miss his PK play but is replaceable

At the very least we have 2 guys that will play hard not matter what period or situation. Rinaldo and Downie.

I see pros and cons of the trade. I am not disappointed or excited. I am intrigued. Let's see what happens!

I won't be watching the board tonight, but I suspect this place will just implode on itself if Downie scores a goal AND crushes someone with a borderline check that results in a reputation penalty.

i agree, i've seen both do the wrong way but they made the right call. i just think we get boned a little more than we should. mike emerick (who i despise as an announcer) referenced a conversation with a former player and made a comment about the flyers "before the flyers were an annoying team" during the bruins/pens game the other night. that attitude carries over into other areas, in my opinion. for example, it would not surprise me if steve downie goes to the box more as a flyer than he did as a bolt or av

I see many scenarios for the board to implode. I'm excited for the game though because I really have no idea to expect from the trade. I think it was a really low risk/reward move for the flyers, IMO. I always thought Talbots contract was a little long, despite liking him as a player.

An underrated aspect to this trade is it pushes Rosehill to the Cote suite on a permanent basis.
