Side note: Pageau was demoted to work on his game, not to save money, right??

Alfredsson can f-off. Asking for 7mil - not worth it, I'd lowball his swedish as$ too after that.

Who would you take, Ryan for next two seasons and possibly more or Alfie for one more....dont bother answering cuz anyone with any idea will say Ryan...

- BodyCheckRadio

I think Ryan was a great addition. Losing Alfredsson, Silfverberg, Noesen (wasn't really doing much anyway) and a pick which -as it stands - might be top ten though is what hurts.

Many more variables to consider. I like the straw figure approach to your comment though

Cowen needs to get his game back soon ,he is a much better defender that what we have seen out of him this season.A trip to the bottom pair might be the wakeup call he need to pick his game up

Well actually, Ottawa is averaging 1500 fans less then last year - average ticket at $100 and that's $150 000 game.

So far that's $600 000 this season in 4 home games.

Average that over 42 games = $6.5 million = Pay Alfie his money.

Do you ever look anything up? Average ticket price in Ottawa is $58. http://www.forbes.com/teams/ottawa-senators/

I wonder if the Paulrus isn't trying to make a statement to Murray (and Melnyk): you gave me chicken poop on D, and I have run out of ways to make it look like chicken salad.

So let me get this right...its an avg of $100 a ticket? I don't think so, maybe if it were all lower bowl empty seats. Firstly, most of the empty seats are upper bowl and even then, the avg ticket price is far less than $100 bucks...get your facts right. Secondly, its been 4 home games, 1 vs NJ (dud), two afternoon games and one evening game if I'm not mistaken. There schedule has been less than optimal. Wait til Toronto, MTL, Detroit, Pitt and other power house teams roll in, I'm sure the attendance will be much different. SJ is the only team that has notoriety right now, and they were 5pm on a Sunday! Give me a break...

Lastly, even if they were selling out or selling only 10k seats a night, it makes no difference, they have an internal budget they are working within...so that 6.5m that you conjured up was not meant for a greedy player...its revenue for the team...

So losing a guy who's retiring in one year and likely will only play 50-60 games this year, replacing his production with MacArthur, and losing a kid who hasn't proven anything yet (Silf) and Noesen who has never seen NHL ice makes no sense for Ryan...

Sorry, but you do that deal every day of the week. Alfie is a joke for asking for 7mil then not even negotiating after OTT said no. Would I have had him back at 4.5-5mil, yes. But if someone said to me and likely every other fan (except you), would you rather the team they have now vs the one last year....I'd take the now. I don't care that they are off to a bad start, its a long season.

You have ZERO clue what you are talking about. Stick to the London Knights pal.

I went with this Forbes list that has Ottawa average ticket price at $137.82. How do you explain that? Two different things on the internet, this world is completely two-sided!

Are we the Boston Red Sox or something....I don't think so. The Avg price is definitely not $137

Adding Ryan is a great addition. But it was a heavy payment, there is no disputing that. Noessen should be a good player (hindsight etc. I know)

It's that first round pick that could cause people to panic. I'm not too worried, because either way I do not think this team will be bad enough to fall too far down.

Didn't say I didn't like the deal, in fact, I said I like the Ryan addition (read the post again).

Since you couldn't follow what I was saying, I was pointing out it's disingenuous for you to say that it was simply an Alfredsson vs. Ryan swap.

Also, if you check back, the post was from a long line of old players that we sarcastically (that means we didn't really mean it) wanted to bring back to play from the 2007 SC Finals team. Thanks for coming out

Not your fault, Forbes mis-represented their findings. If you look at it, the prices they generated their average from was from a bidding site where they post the average bid price for game tickets. Season tickets being sold by the team is a much different story.

Yep he probably would have stayed if we started at 5 mil ,and looked to add something more than Joe Corvo. He wants to win at this stage of his career, and the words" internal budget ' more than likely put him off .I mean come on we are like 28th in the league in actual spending ,this just doesnt scream we are comitted to winning

Have you ever actually been to a game? If you did you would know thats BS

If average is $137, then lets say low end 50% so $70, which means high end is $207???

Ya I call BS

I know you can get family zone and standing room tickets for less than $30

i would believe the average to a leafs or habs game (in ottawa) was an average of 137$......but if you take the average of all 41 home games, it's NOT EVEN CLOSE. it will be comfortably under 100$, probably under 75$

That would be ideal to me. I honestly think Neil has been far and away the worst player on the team this year. Every time Sens get momentum Neil gets out next shift and takes a penalty. I love the guy but he has no business playing in a top six role.

- sensfanpei

If Paul's 'best players play' is in play then here's what it should be:

Zibanejad-Spezza-Ryan
MacArthur-Turris-Conacher
Michalek-Smith-Condra
Greening-Grant-Neil

Methot-Karlsson
Weircioch-Corvo
Phillips-Cowen/Gryba

*Prob swap 93/89 for proper positions. Grant only by default 4th line

Anton Volchenkov is not coming to Ottawa; whatever your opinion is [I respect it] but he's a $4.25 cap hit for 2 more years after this one.

I'd swap Ryan and Conacher (only because he works so well with MacArthur and Turris), but otherwise agree that these are the best combos for the current roster. I have faith in MacLean, though ... I suspect (hope?) that there's a method to his madness (not so subtle kicks in the pants to players? veiled messages to management?)

Thank you!
I totally agree...this is the exact best scenario I was able to come up with while watching last game. I just have this gut feeling, like a lot of other fans do, that zibanijad on the wing with Spezza would be totally lethal to other teams... It would also add the defense awareness to the line that McLean is desperately searching for.
