If Talbot was playing like he did during his 1st season with the Flyers I'd wouldn't like this trade much. He was a monster the first season here. Again bottom line if it makes the team better I'm happy.

To me it seems Hall should be in the lineup more now so he can play on the PK.

I agree completely.. It's not like we've been a good team since the beginning of last season so I am not sure it's a big deal to trade him.. You've changed the coach to no avail... Adjustments need to be made with the players.

well, after hours of searching the internets I've come to the conclusion that the only people who don't think the Flyers got the better of this deal are a few Flyer fans posting on hockey buzz.

All the people upset about this trade..

what realistic better deal is there to make?

The average Flyers fan I talk to in South Philly right now says the following to me

1. Why can't they trade for a number 1 dman?
2. They need Jagr..look what he for so many years here (yes some guy said that to me)
3. Their goal tending is horrible.

I like to call this the useless 610 Hockey Fan threesome.

It's asinine.

They made a trade where they a) get a better player b) he's younger c) he fills the needs of the team better than the guy they traded away and people shred the GM for making it.

There's plenty of things to criticize the Flyers for, making a solid deal that improves the team shouldn't be one of them.

A very interesting trade.

I will miss the strong defensive 3rd line of Talbot/Couts and Read, but another young winger added. Hmmm.

The lines going forward will be very interesting, but I agree Holmgren has just started dealing.

I was going to ask if they try to resign Downie, but it's probably too early for that.

Ever read the team's facebook page during a game? 95% of this fanbase is utterly clueless about hockey.

What I don't understand, after reading today's posts, is exactly who we should be getting rid of off this team that didn't make the playoffs last year and is 3-8 currently.

If you suggest moving anybody or scratching anyone, you already risk the wrath of any number of folks.

But if the Flyers actually do it...WOW. I've never seen anything like today.

Honestly, only a few have not liked the trade. I think they made a good deal, based on they got the best player out of the deal. I think it's going to help them in some ways, and hurt them in others. We have to let it play out to see how it changes the dynamic of the team. Trading a role player for a more talented younger player, isn't a bad move. But let's not pretend that there aren't any concerns about the deal.

Put it this way, Flyers "fans" who probably don't understand the sport of hockey are probably so used to the big BLOCKBUSTER trade because thats what has been happening since the end of the '11 season. Now hours after this trade, I feel so much better this trade happened. This is such an awesome trade and I think Downie is going to help tremendously.

i like the downie trade and I hope to see more trades to address the defense and a possibly a sniper. This team has been painful to watch since last season.

Getting the players to address the defense and add a sniper would gut the team of it's youth.

I haven't read very many posts resisting the trade. Nutter is the only one that comes to mind. We should just relax.

I still think there's a shoe to drop b/w Hartnell and Simmonds. Providing Downie comes in and does what he's asked to do. I just don't like the mix of those 3 players on the same team. Downie is supposed to come in and provide a spark. A spark is a big part of the job descriptions of Hartnell and Simmonds.

some concerns, for sure. it's almost like this is "too good" of a deal, and thereby something must have been going on with Downie and Roy.

from that perspective, I understand those who are hesitant to embrace this deal. But from strictly a player-for-player analysis, there's no question who won this trade.

Someone needs to talk to RAJ because Gilleck mastered the art of minor pieces to bolster a the club. RAJ was forever looking for the blockbuster. On pace to win 100 games he trade 2 top 100 prospects and another stud, plus a give away for a player he dumped for jump change 1 year later. Ugh!

I understand concern. What we saw today was straight-up rage and misinformation -- and yeah, I get that people like certain players, but at some point, there is an attachment to players on a team that isn't performing that is unhealthy.

You can't have 3 players to provide a spark on the same team? Still not sure what the problem is having those 3 players on the same team.
