Dont know if anyone may have brought this up earlier, but I have to wonder with the acquisition of Downie, a top 6 RW, if Simmonds is about to be moved in a package for a dman.
- BiggE

I'm sure Simmonds has a lot of interested teams calling about him. He's off to a poor start, but he's a good player with a lot of grit.

I'll miss the guy.

all good points ... though I think another trade might happen in the next day.
- FlyerGuy

It could easily happen tonight. I'm looking at the cap impact and the depth chart and it just seems like there's something else coming.

If Ek is right, and they are talking to the Oilers/Blues...

What deals do you think could happen?

If Simmonds gets moved I'm moving out of the country. I just got his jersey at the beginning of this season lol. I swear, the luck I have with players jerseys!

Max is a good player. There are also other good players who can do what he did. Will they easily fill his skates? No, but the Flyers will find someone very much like him, I'm sure.
- FlyerGuy

All I (frank)ing want is for Holmgren to find a couple of guys like Moen to play on the fourth line.

Guys who play hard, can contribute, provide a spark, but arent morons who are known for taking bad penalties. To me, this Downie thing is a joke. Talbot could have been dealt at the deadline, and Downie brought in as UFA if need be. The Flyers will have to re-sign him at seasons end anyway.

Its a moronic short sighted move, to try and give this team a kick in the ass.

You don't make a trade to distract people. You make them because it makes your team better. I don agree with that part. First part could have played into it.
- funmaster18

What if the destraction makes your team better by not focusing on the guy beating his wife like Hextall used to beat the posts.

edit. "If you know someone who is a victim of sexual assault or domestic violence, you can find resources to help them at NO MORE" Just make sure MTV films it first and doesnt report ANYTHING to authorities!

Could easily happen. A possible Simmonds deal was my first thought after hearing about the trade.

Can you please list a few examples of players they can reasonably acquire to replace him?
- jmatchett383

I'm going to leave this decision to Homer and Hexy, sir.

Smells like Meszaros to Edmonton for Yakupov, and Hartnell to St. Louis for Pieterangelo. Hmmm.... that might not work cap wise.

Why do they have to acquire anybody. Hasn't Adam hall shown he can kill penalties and play no the 4th line?

The talk of replacing Simmonds with Downie is hilarious to me.

You have a guy who still has an ability to continue to break out in the league, even though he is having a horrific start.

You also have a guy who has maxed out, is injury prone, and known for taking dumb penalties. WHo needs a raise at the end of the year.

Holmgren has lost his touch. Short sighted move. As usual.

I'm just gonna throw this out there for the future:

Max Talbot is going to go to Colorado and quietly play good D for them. If/when Colorado makes the playoffs and you watch them, Max Talbot will shine, because he's a playoff player. You will then wonder why he didn't play like that here.

The reason is because he did. In other words, you don't know what you have until it's gone.

I hope will all of my heart that Steve Downie scores 30 goals and raises the Cup as a Flyer this season. I really do. Just saying that, as far as Talbot goes, the grass will not look greener.

Actually, it would probably be Matt Read sliding up to replace Simmonds, if he is traded

Lol there would have to be a lot more to those deals if that were the case. Prospects and picks would be moving out
