Also, the only place Downie makes sense to me is one the top line.
- jmatchett383

I wouldn't mind seeing him w/Couturier and Matt Read if the top line didn't click.

Not trying to chump on you but dear God, it's clear you haven't seen that his game has progressed and he is he's not as much a hot head as before.

I liked Talbot, but I don't understand the love from you as the team clearly needs a change and some goal scoring.

It's partly because I've watched him a lot since he was a rookie and was thrilled we got him. Now, 2 years after, we got rid of him. So that's part of my drunken tirade.

To give you an idea of how upset I was (no matter who we traded him for) I was literally shaking with anger at this trade. I guess I can kind of understand what it's attempting to do, but I'm still not happy.

Absolutely agree 100%.

I am super tempered when it comes to moves. I think we need to wait a few months before we can say it was a smart move or not..

Up front, I think they will benefit from it.. Thats my hope at least.. but who knows.

I think there are positives and negatives to this. It could help them and hurt them all at the same time.

I'm kind of bummed. I really, really liked talbot and his contract was really nice. We have been down the downie road before.
- idiotsallofu

See the point to me is that Talbot is a really nice guy and was a decent player. This team has been bad since the beginning of last year. Something had to give here. It's better than trading prospects or picks.

I was furious at the Carter and Richards trades...it still might not work out for us... I will tell you, it's not worth getting that mad about. I think it's a trade that had to be made.

How can anybody not like this trade?
As far as hockey skills, talbot is a 4th line forward and good on the PK. Downie is a top 9 forward who has been playing, along with O Reilly, against the toughest opposing forwards for the Aves. Cap wise talbot, for a fourth line forward, was making 1.75 mil against the cap for another two years. That is a tremendous waste when you can get a guy of comparable skill set like Adam hall for more than a million less. And as far as heart soul, veteran leader, good in the room, and all that other off the ice stuff people love to mention about him: where's it been the last two years when this team has played like an uninspired giant pile of crap? If the play on ice represents his contribution to the lockerroom then good riddens.

Depends on the prospects. I'm just a huge Talbot fan. As a fan, it's the Richards trade all over. For the record, I'm comparing the way I feel about trading the player, not the players skills.

Now the Flyers just need to trade Timonen and I'll feel no emotional attachment to any of them.

Here is my take..

Right now we had 8 guys capable of playing in the top 9.

We have about 5 guys capable (and shouldnt be above) the 4th line.

Even if we pull a guy like Holmstrom or whoever...

For a break:

Colorado Avalanche goalie Semyon Varlamov will be allowed out of jail and be able to travel with the team while prosecutors consider charging him in a domestic violence case. Varlamov, who appeared in court Thursday, is accused of assaulting his girlfriend, kicking her in the chest and dragging her by the hair.

My issue (I'll be composed here) is that Downie is the kind of guy who helps you make the playoffs, but Talbot is the kind of guys who helps you win in the playoffs.
