I'm so confused as to what either team accomplished with this trade.
- Flyers_01

Colorado thinks they're going deep in the playoffs, yet realize they've got a 20-year-old captain and the best players on their team are 25 and under -- and they've been pretty much brutal since 2009.

They need an older guy who brings what Maxime Talbot does.

The Flyers...we've still got multiple guys who went to the Stanley Cup finals in 2010. We just brought in two captains this offseason, you know?

Steve Downie is a better fit for where we are right now: A team that isn't scoring, which means you better start finding some goals. He's a very good passer, has good instincts for the game. Has has some temper issues, but he's a bit older and he manages that side of the game much, much better.

OOOOOOOOOOOOOO... a line with Simmer/Stewart could be pretty nice

Worked wonders when Talbot brought in Gervais. (Belch)

They'd probably just double the price of beer.

Prices are already criminal for the crap they serve in stadiums... The next step is too big to fail concessions writing their own rules and propped up by taxpayer dollars!

The weirdest thing about the refreshments at Consol is ever since they switched from the old barn, they sell RC Cola. I didn't even know they made the stuff anymore!

Steve Downie
09 - 10 = average 3 PIM per game, 72 games
10 - 11 = average 2.6 PIM per game, 57 games
11 - 12 = average 2.2 PIM per game, 55 games

"running around take wild penalties" seems a little sensationalist.

- shekkie

Wow. His 2.63 PIM/GP is almost as high as Lady Byng Rinaldo's average of 2.69.

Then clearly we should trade them all for pending UFAs with higher cap hits who have better offesive production.
- jmatchett383

I won't be surprised, given the transactions that have already happened in this young season, if a few more Flyers trades occur sooner rather than later. I just hope your blood pressure can handle it.

So when Downie goes crazy with offensive production (6 points, all assists, in his last 10 games) and the Flyers PK drops from 6th to 14th, we'll be better?

I haven't bought a beer at a Pens game in about 10 years for that very reason. I'd rather get better beer for have the price pregame down the street.

Trades that I feel will actually benefit the team and have a purpose, I'm okay with. When you trade a guy like Talbot for a pending UFA and the coach says, "I don't know, we'll try putting him somewhere," I am not down with that.

6 points in 10 games (whether they are all assists or not) is pretty damn good production.

I don't know -- I'm not kidding, I don't know. I can't pretend to answer that question to your satisfaction, because you don't like this deal -- and I understand your points.

But what if those three assists are primaries on the gamewinners? What if we give up two PP goals in a game and score four goals and win 4-3?

I won't know, none of us will know, until he gets here and starts playing.

I just truly believe that it's insanity to run the same roster out there when you know it can't score. Again, it didn't have to be Max Talbot who went. But we needed SOMEBODY, somebody other than the 20 guys we've been running out there this season.

So maybe they want to go with younger players? Give other guys the ability to mold themselves into the role that Talbot occupied. I have no problem with the move. Its really not catastrophic.

Same. On top of parking and the ticket prices, I can't bring myself to spend $8-10 on crap beer I would never consider drinking out in the real world. Too many good choices to be drinking some crappy light beer.

That's my issue. I'll liken it to getting a headache, and putting some neosporin on your forehead to make it go away. Sorry, it's the first thing that came.

My point is, I don't believe he was a problem. I understand you need 2 teams willing to make a move, but I think this will make them worse in the end.
