$2,650,000 for a real top-9 forward is good. $1,750,000 for 4th-liner is not.

Stupid trade, now Holmgren needs to go.

I am now officially on this. Guys like Talbot are hard to come by. Guys never ever takes a shift off and is a good 4th line/PK player. Horrible decision. Downie had 1 good season in TB and that's it. This is a putrid trade, and I want Homer gone now.

Interested to hear bills take. I have to imagine talbot was a big presence in the locker room.
- funmaster18

I am tired of character and presence guys...I want guys that can put the puck in the back of the &^&*%*&% net!!! Hal Gill and his boat load of mentorship are in the press box every night...

Downie has a goal from G tomorrow night...Book it!

Ha! You know damn well I'm ecstatic about one thing: You can insert Steve Downie on any of those three lines, move somebody up or down, put Adam Hall back in as the 4C and not dress Jay Rosehill.
- AllInForFlyers

Hahah, high hopes there... more likely, they'll send Raffl back, call up Derek Mathers, and laugh as you claw out your eyes... right in time for Halloween, too!

I think the real question is whether you believe Talbot is a 3rd or 4th liner. I've always thought he isn't skilled enough to be in the top 9, but he's too good of a player to play strictly on the 4th line.

Downie's going to help the PP, he has a history of being able to keep up with good linemates (Vinny knows him from Tampa), and nobody likes to play against him.

Talbot is the world's most likable guy, but he's not exactly the best hockey player in the world.

- Tomahawk

I would also mention that althought the Flyers always draft the best player available...this might even out the lines in a more natural position then having a bunch of centers trying to play a position they are not accustomed too. Just a thought

That's sure as hell more likely than Max Talbot getting one, which also increases the likelihood that we score three goals in a game, which also increases the likelihood that we either get a point or, gasp...win a game.

I know. Crazy talk.

Downie is tied for the lead in points for the Flyers as of today. I loved Talbot overall, but dear God we have to start scoring.

I would say the label "he's not exactly the best hockey player in the world "could apply to Downie also.

that is excellent, but my 1st impression is that this is a good trade for us. downie is excellent along the boards and has a pretty good scoring touch...balances out the forwards. hall can do a lot of what max did.

- isaiah520

It's obvious Hall will be traded for Carcillo.

Maxime Talbot was a very good PKer, and he'll be missed in that role.

But Good Lord. This team needs more wingers who might score a freaking goal every once in a while than I need to learn how to post shorter.

I get the sneaking suspicion there's another trade being pondered ...

Maybe Rinaldo, or one of the D men.

We've had conversation after conversation on here about the Flyers needing a better 4th line, so they can roll 4 lines. What do you think better caliber role players such as Talbot cost?

I think this trade is a wake up call, Talbot was well liked in the dressing room. Telling players that "We will trade you if your not producing" This is a deal that comes before trading a big name. More losses and a big name is next.

YAY NOW WE HAVE A TOP-9 WINGER.!!!

Who needs guys who actually give 100% every shift?
Who needs guys who are playoff warriors?
Who needs a guy who will do whatever he's asked to in order to win?
Who needs leadership?

I guess the answer is Colorado.

It applies to everyone who isn't the best hockey player in the world once we figure out who that guy is.
