A guy doing a job like that shouldn't make more than 5.
We have the offense figured out from the blueline. We need more Gunnarssons there to compliment and clean up mistakes.
And the more money we give Dion, the sooner we'll have to jettison a goalie, along with us having to make tougher cap decisions.
Now, if Nonis can mange to dump all of Liles' salary somewhere I'd be more open to giving Dion some money. But that's a different story. - AngryWhiteMale

Did you also think the kessel deal was bad at first? just saying, ppl who don't appreciate Dion is getting old - clark_griswold
Kessel deal was good because we don't have an adequate replacement for that level of skill, and couldn't afford for him to walk.
There's reason to believe that we have a lot of young Dmen who will be good enough to take his roster spot, even if they aren't quite as good as Dion.
Goaltending will be a bigger factor down the road. All it takes is one injury to our no. 1 and we're screwed, so keeping Reimer and Bernie for the next few years is worth spending money on. |

Are there refs on those lines keeping the conversation civilized?
It'd be a tad ironic to be kicked off for venting too liberally |

They'll have 5 full days off after saturday. It'd be great for them to get maximum points going into that.
They can step back, relax, and RC can go to work on some of the little details that he'll think they need to work on, and we know there are quite a few little things that add up. |

She's cute, I'd lock that down long-term contract.
If she wants a NMC she'll wind up fat so you gotta have performance bonuses worked in. |

No filter in the ref lounge, they encourage venting but instead of swearing we substitute the words with posters names . |

I don't think that's how it works. Both of those guys want to be THE starter. At some point in the next year or so the Leafs management will have to make a decision on which one to put all their faith. |

I think the opposite. Our offense is gross. Take out phil and move up lupul. More adequate than replacing Dion with a returning mark fraser or calling up Liles. But I digress |

That's like any team though man. Were really luck to have Bernier and Reimer at
a combined 4.7 cap hit. It's ridiculous actually
Look at Carolina right now. Justin Peters. Were developing a couple guys in the Marlies that could hopefully be competent backups one day.
I agree. Our defense prospects are probably top 5 in the league. Percy, MacWilliam, Granberg, Finn have a good shot of being full-time NHLers.
Kessel is one of the best players in the world. We won that trade all the way, we gave up two 1sts and a 2nd for a generation player. Signed him for 13 total years from the age of 21. We had the Gilmour era, the Sundin era. This is officially the Kessel era now. He's franchise, he had to be locked down. Can't wait to see what he'll do on the big ice in the Olympics. |

So If guys like Franson are at near a PPG(and up there in hits too), and Reilly and Gardiner are coming around, why do we need to spend 7m per on Dion?
Why not just use that cap space to keep Reimer and Bernier for the medium-long term. - AngryWhiteMale
Probably because Franson sucks defensively and Phaneuf is a horse? |

Every dman is making pretty bad blunders but they have to work on the separation gap between wingers and defence, a lot of the time the wingers are not giving the defence an outlet out of the D Zone. |

And of course at some point in the next 3 years we'll have to make a move. We'll want as large a sample size as we can get before making that decision.
Plus we'll probably want to make sure we've at least got someone in the system for way down the road too. Maybe worth spending a 2nd or 3rd rounder picking up a goalie. |

True, there have been times where perhaps the anticipated speed of some of these blueliners, along with their passing abilities, has caused us to stretch out a little too much. |
