Carlyle's been pretty clear over the last year or so. His defensive zone strategy is to clog the centre of the ice and the front of the net. Remember Cherry female doging and moaning last playoffs about the Leafs giving up the point shot? I dont' have any stats to show but it seems to me that teams are forced to shoot more from the point and off the boards. Seems to be working.
And the fact that Reimer and Bernier have high save % is proof fact that they are giving up lower quality scoring chances than their opponents. Unless of course we believe that these two guys have become the two best goalies in the league. - The Law

Do you understand the concept of shot quality then? You actually believe both our goalies are better than goalies like Lundquist, Rinne or Price? You need to understand that systems make the goalies. Reimer and Bernier have been great at not letting in softies and making a big save when they have to but their averages are more than deceptive. - MapleLeafsFTW
you lost me, I have no idea where Lundquist, Rinne or Price factor into Reimer/Bernier vs Calg Edm.
feels like you jumped half way into a conversation full cocked.
I surrender you win |

BUT THEY'RE OUTSHOT EVERY NIGHT!!! THEY CAN'T KEEP WINNING!! - SofaKingBored
I like how all the analysts in the intermissions sit around dumbstruck. All they can do is repeat "badly out shot, can't keep winning" Then they look a the Leafs' record and go silent. |

You were mentioning how our goalies have been amazing and the reason we won, and I was comparing them to elite goalies who their numbers have been better then. Do you remember Giguere and Bryzgalov in Anaheim or Mike Smith in Tampa vs Phoenix. It's all about the system. |

As much as it pains me, I see the Habs in the thick of that competition for second as well. - MapleLeafsFTW
I disagree with you. They'll fight, but it'll be a fight to get into the playoffs. They're just not that good. |

The NHL has it's work cut out for them, how are they going to award 2 goalies the Vezina? |

Giguere was outstanding in 06/07... |

But they weren't last year either and they found a way to win the division. I can't believe I'm arguing with a Habs fan that your team is going to be more successful... |

did I say amazing?
I simply said I think Reimer and Bernier were better than Ramo Bachman
you are saying the system was better and the goalies dont matter.
fine

You guys really only have Price Subban and to some extent Patches. Galch and Gallagher are obviously really good too but they're still young, Galch will be a superstar though.
The rest of your team is kind of meh.
The Canadiens leave much to be desired. |

I don't want to take too much credit away from him, but the system inflated his stats. The very same system we play now. |

Good question, I'd say fight for it, but Reimer would have no chance against Knuckles. |

Woah Woah, hang on there cowboy, I didn't say the goalies don't matter. You put Scrivens in our net, and it's not so pretty. I agree that our goalies were better in both nights, but I'm saying we are better beyond the net. |

No, No. They will just retire the Vezina, and introduce the Bernimer award. |

Had last year been a full season, they would have been fighting for a playoff spot. |

I agree I guess, law of averages has to catch up eventually. But something the Habs are very good at is playing to their advantage and making it into their kind of game. Maybe it's part of having home ice almost where ever they go. That's just my opinion based on the limited amount of Habs games I watch. |

They will just retire the goaltender position and put up a brick wall in front of the net. |

You're right. I was at the game here Monday, and we were well represented. We always are. Truth is, Price has had a good start. His numbers are good. The only way the playoffs come easier, is if he keeps it up. |
