agreed, but I think the issue is that when you watch the game, you don't necessarily feel the Leafs are giving up a ton of golden opportunities or the opponents have some major game play advantage.
I am honestly starting to think that the Leafs game plan to give up the shots from outside and from distance.
Also, their goalies have played well, but dont look overly tested on a lot of shots. It is not like we have Roy and Brodeur in net.
I would say the big factors have been the PK, and their ability to convert scoring opportunities. They have become a pretty good offensive team. - Aetherial
Yep that is a the JM style of hockey to a T.
Good Special teams,
Solid Tender performance
Block a 100 shots
Score on the transition
But it doesn't last
It didn't work when the Sens did it
It didn't work when the Habs did it
On the other hand it did work when the Devils did it and when the Ducks did it
So are the Leafs like the 06-07 Ducks, 02-03 Sens, 09-10 Habs
time will tell |

They're winning games because they have been the better team. You're telling me Calgary or Edmonton was better than us? |

I see where all of our fans who don't seem to have a clue, (coughs honest hockey coughs,) come from. I know it's way too early but does anyone have a stat of teams who go 10-4 verses making the playoffs? Everyone is like Corsi this and Fenwik that, but lost in the shuffle is how successful we have been thus far. - MapleLeafsFTW
Well, we're not a good enough team to go 7 and 3 over each 10 game stretch... there will be an inevitable losing skid or two... but based on how we've played against Pittsburgh and some other teams, you'd have to think we'll get into that 5th - 8th slot again...

Ya that's fair, looks like it'll be a pretty similar year to last year. And that would obviously be a good thing. |

No, you need to read my posts from the start then.
I think I can safely say that 2 leafs (Reimer/Bernier) were better than 1 Calgary and 1 Edmonton player (goalies)
the rest I am not sure |

Unfortunately, we're not a good enough team to finish ahead of the Habs... so we'll have to worry about meeting them in the first round with them having home ice advantage...

You mean winning the Cup or not depends only on the coach's system and not the players or any other factor? If that's the case, like you're arguing, the Leafs have a 50/50 shot of winning the Cup this year (it worked for the Devils and Ducks, but not the Habs and Sens). I like those odds. |

Meh, les Habs are a team you don't know where they'll finish either. Predicitons before the season last year was they wouldnt make the playoffs yet they finished 2nd in the East.
But looking at their roster, it's kinda meh (not knocking here). But they're well coached and they play well together so there's that. |

it's too bad that it ends after a season or so for 3 of the 4 teams, and as it has been said here today the leafs have been playing this way for 65 games already |
|

i dunno about that - i would take him over Orr on the 4th line.
mclaren didnt have his best fight. - big_dion
I beg to differ, I think Orr has played some pretty darn good hockey for the past 2-3 games. He has offered good support down low and in the neutral zone. Has been making good short passes or chipping the puck deep to limit number of turnovers/icings. He has gotten in the fore check and cycled the puck effectively. Plus he can throw them if needed.
Orr > Ashton any day of the week in my books. |

Do you understand the concept of shot quality then? You actually believe both our goalies are better than goalies like Lundquist, Rinne or Price? You need to understand that systems make the goalies. Reimer and Bernier have been great at not letting in softies and making a big save when they have to but their averages are more than deceptive.

Yes it ends after a season or so, with Cup wins for half of the examples you provided. Again, I like those odds. |

Why wait? They're winning and there is plenty of trolling. - burn
for the last 10yrs, it's been "this city and their fans deserve better! why can't someone put together a winning team?, stop trading picks and rushing the kids"
now we have a 10-4 team and it's " this team cant win on corsi, they paid kessel too much, they'll pay phaneuf too much, why isnt kadri on the #1 line?, there's a goaltending contraversy, trade 1 of them, play joe colborne, this team can't win!"
makes you wonder who is actually smoking crack?
i'm happy, the leafs are winning, UFA's want to come here, they have 2 good goalies for a change, kessel is exciting to watch, the coach has a personality, they have an great top9 group...
with sooo many good things to write about, if they can't stand that the leafs are winning, move to edmonton or vancouver and write about those teams. |

06-07 Ducks is definitely the most comparable, mainly because of the coaching. |

As much as it pains me, I see the Habs in the thick of that competition for second as well. |
