The only time you throw truly silly money on Dmen is when they're Norris-nominee-worthy. Dion is very good, but aside from 'eating up minutes' there's really not a whole lot he does that others can't.

Goalies have kept the puck out, and Gardiner/Reilly/Franson have kept things moving smoothly on offence.

That's not to say someone else couldnt have made those clears, it's not exactly rocket-science if you've been a Blueliner for years.

Plus Bernier wouldn't have even let those rebounds out, which is why he's got the slight edge on Reimer right now. He's a bit more technically-sound

A guy doing a job like that shouldn't make more than 5.

We have the offense figured out from the blueline. We need more Gunnarssons there to compliment and clean up mistakes.

And the more money we give Dion, the sooner we'll have to jettison a goalie, along with us having to make tougher cap decisions.

Now, if Nonis can mange to dump all of Liles' salary somewhere I'd be more open to giving Dion some money. But that's a different story.

Unless Reilly learns to do a lot of the things Gunnarsson does to help Dion that's not realistic. He has looked good in his own zone, but I'm not sure they're complimentary...at least not yet, obviously we havent seen them really play together and Reilly's only played a handful of games.
