I hate to revisit the baseball discussion from last night, but I gotta tell ya...

Any sport that makes it's players wear goggles and helmets to celebrate a championship win is (frank)ed up.

your right, orr is a highly skilled hockey player and brings a ton to the game when he is not fighting or able to lay a hit because he cant skate quick enough unless the D man is standing still along the boards waiting to take the hit.

i am not an ashton lover by any means. but hes surely more skilled than orr, he just has to not be such an idiot and take stupid penalties.

So were Lombardi and Connolly .....we don't need/want guys with good hands on the 4th line ....just heavy hands. The other 3 lines take care of the other 56 minutes.

problem for leivo in the near future is that we have
JVR
Kessel
Lupul
Clarkson

all set in a top 6 winger role. Kulemin and Raymond both have skill to play in that area as well...so Leivo will have his work cut out for him, but he surely has a great shot and i like his game along the boards...start him on the third line, and see where it goes from there.

I bet we see Leivo on the leafs next season - esp due to how much salary will be spread on our top 6 + bozak and our D(dion)...also reimer RFA.

- big_dion

Oh forsure, it's actually a good thing we have those guys in our top 6. Leivo goes 3rd line and that adds another strong skilled forward. Good to have depth.

I think he'll end up a top sixer, not saying next year, but eventually.

It's going to be a question of Kulemin or Raymond, with Leivo replacing the one who walks. The player they don't sign will go to Washington and put up much better numbers then he ever has as a Leaf.

Get over it man. The Leafs also recently spent 3 years out-shooting their opponents nearly every game and finishing bottom 5 in the league.

Kulimen will go to either caps or Pens. Doubt Pens can afford him though. Malkin and Letangs new deals start next year.

This is it; what the stats can't capture. Average hockey players are capable of taking shots on net, lots of them. Good and better than good hockey players finish two on ones and give and gos. One Philthy/JVR 2 on 1 is equal to 600 20 foot shots on an un-screened goalie in position.

Interestingly the Leafs have 4 players in the top 50 for shots on goal.

Kessel, JVR, Lupul and Raymond. While they may not be taking a ton of shots (the team) - the right guys are the guys pulling the trigger (although I know Corsi guys will tell you it doesn't matter who or from where - that all shots are created equal - I'm sure anyone with half brain knows that isn't true).

no sir there is not - that guy had less offense than rickard wallin though...and he didnt have 1 hit that was bone crushing - personally he didnt do it for me, but im not taking anything away from you liking his style of play.

If the Corsi guys are telling us that the Leafs should be bottom feeders today and/or are winning because they have the 2 best goalies ever to play hockey shouldn't they also be telling us that the Leafs were one of the best teams in the NHL 07-11 and were only losing because of Raycroft and Toskola?

(frank), Raycroft cost the Leafs a cup or two!
