Eh, disagree. We have good preospects. We just havent been bad enough yet to get an impact player. This year is it. And we have a plethora of picks. Give it 2-3 years. We will be back to being decent. I can wait. I'm sick of being average

Kinda what I meant by downhill from here....

Last year was mediocre... This year will be awful... Next year... the truth is that with the right FA signings and coaching, and graduation of prospects, the outlook could go from dismal and bleak to having some hope for the future.

The Leafs were where the Sabres are... only 2-3 years ago.

Do you need a screenshot of the standings?

...He's said in OCTOBER...do you need a screen shot of the season schedule...it is OCTOBER, not June!, call me then, in the meantime, go watch the last 50 years of Leaf games, LOL.
One decent season and you're planning the parade.

We have a decent foundation of young players. Certainly not enough NHL players. A lot of defensemen, not enough forwards, and need a bonafide number 1 center. I'm hoping we can be competitive in 2 years, but most likely it will be 3 or 4

we are farther ahead of the so called rebuild than what other teams have endured. Guess results will tell the tale.

Pretty self serving approach there. Excuses. Your team sucks and no 1st this year (reaaaaaaaallll smart move by Lou to not give the 29th pick 2 draft ago).

Feaster has been just fine. His trades were lack lastur but now with Burke in the mix, we have a great management team. Bash Feast if you want, but it looks like he did a great job preparing for the inevitable rebuild we are now in. Our FA signings have been solid.

- TandA4Flames

Yea i never understood that, the first round pick could only be 1 pick later maximum. Now there gunna throw away a top 5-6 pick.

Don't be too picky about the return...as great a fit as he is, could you not see him preferring a lesser role on a contender? I think most guys value the chance to win more than the role they have.
- Jeropotato

Im not tryng to be picky, i'd love to move him. But im saying I dont think Darcy gives up a guy like that who wants to stay in Buffalo unless he cant refuse the offer.

One of the biggest problems I have with the NHL draft is the lottery. What would happen if say the penguins or bruins or another top tier team traded for a lower teams 1st round pick and won in say 2015 for mcdavid. Personally that is the worst case possible I know but it still shows that there is a problem with the system that is there. any thoughts?
- DJwazzer

Whoever gets 1st pick in 2015 wont trade it, no matter what. Generational players don't get traded (except Gretzky because of a cheap owner).

No one.

From Elliot Friedman...

2. Islanders GM Garth Snow is getting grief for taking Thomas Vanek instead of Ryan Miller, but the way Miller is going, do you think Regier is trading him for Matt Moulson's expiring contract, a first-round and second-round draft pick? Me neither. Regier said Monday he has "no offers" for Miller, and really hasn't had any since the summer. When the goalie does get traded, the bet is it's for a price Snow wasn't willing to pay for a rental.

- Iggysbff

I hear what your saying, but he definatley has offers for miller. He also said last week friday that not teams want to trade yet so he had no offer for vanek, then after hes traded he says they talked for a while about it. Dont take much into what he says, hes a professional poker player with a good bluffing face. He will pry out a big deal for miller.

Yes. This Moulson deal was a rumor that was reported on here by somoene in the summer. They person posted that if Regeir wanted Moulson and a 1st for Vanek, it was there. Darcy went on to talk about how there was no offers for Vanek later in the offseason. What do you know the exact rumor came true last week. I have no doubt that a deal is in place for Miller if Regeir wants it or Miller waives.

Yep, hes holding out for Halak to struggle or a goalie on a contender to get hurt so he gets maximum value, which is the right choice IMO, but he should be moved by the Christmas break when he is still trying, hes not gunna care at all after the olympics, thats all he is playing for now.

Anyone else really happy we got mouslon? I think hes gunna get a good return March 5th. I know its only ben one game, but if he continues to create offense, then the old saying that hes only a product of tavares will be gone and raise the return. TSN did an in close review of his game and it showed hes always in position.

If he has say 17 goals by the deadline, he nets us a 1st. If he struggles, teams might not bite hard. I still say resign him.

Yea. Just wait until Kessel goes into his yearly food induced coma and stops scoring for a few games

He will pry at least a first, even gaustad got us a first. Someone will want a goal scorer at the deadline. Look at what Iginla got, 1st rounder and 2 prospects. I think moulson is better offensively then iginla, just because iginla is passed his prime.

Miller, just like Moulson for that matter, is also playing for a new, big, contract so i doubt he tanks the season. Too much money at stake and what could be his last contract he signs before retiring. Players in that position have every reason to be their best every night.

I, not saying hes gunna tank on purpose. But hes not gunna have the care, the fight, or the work ethic he has now trying to win the USA job.

I have a problem with it but not for those reasons. If your team is going to be awful, don't trade your draft picks. Simple asset management and any GM should know better.

That's not a problem with the system, that's a problem with having dumb hockey management.

The real problem is that bad to mediocre teams have incentives to tank/throw wins/purposefully lose and ice an uncompetitive product/team that fans PAY for and support, such that the team can purposefully manipulate the standings (intentionally finish last place/poorly) to acquire the best players in the game (pick high in the draft). See Edmonton. Hogging all the young stars and still being awful.

- twiztedmike

So after Pronger left, what should the Oilers have done to stay competitive? Maybe try to sign some free agents. Well they did that, they even signed a couple RFA's, which made a couple other GM's whine like little girls. See Burke. Maybe they could sign a player like Hossa, nope, he wanted to play for a competitor. Can't blame him. Maybe they should try to sign Nylander, nope, his wife is a princess. Maybe trade for Heatly, nope he doesn't want to play in Edmonton. Oh and there was also the odd injury, but that can't be the cause. Of all those moves, which one makes you think they tanked intentionally?
