IMO, ott will only be traded if its a MEGA overpayment. Hes the captain and the perfect guy to help teach young guys the way. Ehrhoff, Miller, stafford (maybe we can get a bag of pucks?), Ennis, mcbain, and moulson are all up for grabs. I think miller and moulson are for sure gone. - Djtyczy
Don't be too picky about the return...as great a fit as he is, could you not see him preferring a lesser role on a contender? I think most guys value the chance to win more than the role they have. |

Ott will be moved IMO. 2nd in '14, 2nd in '15. Similar to what Robyn Regehr got us |

Not to says it's bad. But again; cap hit is the only number that matters.
Actual dollars to a guy like katz arent important |

One of the biggest problems I have with the NHL draft is the lottery. What would happen if say the penguins or bruins or another top tier team traded for a lower teams 1st round pick and won in say 2015 for mcdavid. Personally that is the worst case possible I know but it still shows that there is a problem with the system that is there. any thoughts? |

For sure it is.
Im willing to bet its a good value for another 3 or 4 years. Its the last 2-3 im concerned about.
But that was never really my point. Its not a terrible contract. Just that cap hit is a much more meaningful number than actual salary |

Oh I agree. But it does make it more attractive regardless. |

what would you implement to stop that issue and change the draft?

Let the draft be the worse team gets the best draft pick, but unfortunately its not that simple. |

Are you really comparing Jay Feaster to Lou Lamoriello? Granted we're in a transition period since we are a small market team and we lost our captain to a $98 million 13 year contract after drafting and developing him for years.. We're entering a different era with Marty and Elias getting ready to pass the torch after making the playoffs 15 out of 17 years... But you guys were close with that O'Reilly offer sheet! Feaster is knocking on the door of greatness. - TheJerseyDevil1
Not comparing at all... Lou Lam is a legend. Simply stating the fact that not everything Feaster has done is poop and the on ice product (today) supports that. Our future looks good and our team will actually stay in Calgary... |

Don't get your Ions in a uproar. Their playoff march has stalled and will be out of the playoffs by Christmas. |

Not just Edmonton. According to Kypreos he said no to any Canadian team.
Tells us all what we need to about Miller... - Iggysbff
He has TORONTO down multiple times, top 3 lines I believe

No one.
From Elliot Friedman...
2. Islanders GM Garth Snow is getting grief for taking Thomas Vanek instead of Ryan Miller, but the way Miller is going, do you think Regier is trading him for Matt Moulson's expiring contract, a first-round and second-round draft pick? Me neither. Regier said Monday he has "no offers" for Miller, and really hasn't had any since the summer. When the goalie does get traded, the bet is it's for a price Snow wasn't willing to pay for a rental.

I have a problem with it but not for those reasons. If your team is going to be awful, don't trade your draft picks. Simple asset management and any GM should know better.
That's not a problem with the system, that's a problem with having dumb hockey management.
The real problem is that bad to mediocre teams have incentives to tank/throw wins/purposefully lose and ice an uncompetitive product/team that fans PAY for and support, such that the team can purposefully manipulate the standings (intentionally finish last place/poorly) to acquire the best players in the game (pick high in the draft). See Edmonton. Hogging all the young stars and still being awful. |

You can look at it that way or you can look at it from the perspective that the Leafs were down 3-1 against a great team and came back and made it interesting.
And that your team wasn't even good enough to be in the playoffs too and really shouldn't be talking. Especially since things are going downhill from here. |

Eh, disagree. We have good preospects. We just havent been bad enough yet to get an impact player. This year is it. And we have a plethora of picks. Give it 2-3 years. We will be back to being decent. I can wait. I'm sick of being average |

I honestly don't think history repeats itself and we get a 1st like we did with Gaustad. Unless Ott starts scoring. Currently he's on pace for a very slow season like the rest of the Sabres |
