I thought Buffalo gave him the best chance at winning a cup.

Unfortunately it was this cup...

Always room for the Philly mention with everyone. He would be an instant upgrade over every Dman on the roster.

I think you need to do a little bit of research. The defence has actually been pretty good overall and currently sits 16th in the league in goals against average, which doesn't show based on the standings. The problem is the scorers aren't potting any goals. I wouldn't say Erhoff is an instant upgrade over Streit and Coburn, albeit I would think that many Flyer fans would be happy to have Erhoff on the team. But any chance for a Pens fan to throw a dig at the Flyers, right?

A little reading to remedy some of your statistical ignorance:

Isles don't want that head case. Hes not good, refused to report to us a couple of years ago and deserves what he gets.
- mighty13duck

he didnt refuse to report, he didnt want to sign a contract with us.

Pretty much the same thing. He didn't want to play for them.
- mighty13duck

Or he signed the better deal in Buffalo.

That would be insane to take on that contract...
- whipper334

No, it is mostly payed. He got 10mil year 1, 8 min year 2, and like 6 mil this year. Over half is already payed.

I need outside opinions.

NMC's in real life are in play here, but imagine they are not.

If the Flyers were to put Hartnell (4.75 until 2019) and Streit (5.25 until 2017) on waivers tonight. Does anyone pick them up?

Eddie Lack is twice the goalie Dubnyk will ever be. Lack has more wins than Dubnyk and is a back up.

NOT A CHANCE on Streit IMO
Hartnell... maybe... but he'd still be an iffy pick up... although he cut off his 'Good Ship Lollipop' hair apparently.

Christian Ehrhoff = Paul Martin

Check out their numbers and averages.

Certainly worth $4M/per

IMO, ott will only be traded if its a MEGA overpayment. Hes the captain and the perfect guy to help teach young guys the way. Ehrhoff, Miller, stafford (maybe we can get a bag of pucks?), Ennis, mcbain, and moulson are all up for grabs. I think miller and moulson are for sure gone.

Poison pill contract. You'd have to be Jay Feaster or Craig MacTavish to take on that contract.

The contract is far from insane.

From 2014-2015 on, it looks like this...

4,000,000
4,000,000
3,000,000
1,000,000
1,000,000
1,000,000

He makes $6M his last 4 years COMBINED. That is hardly tough to take.

- kingcong39

It is if he retires and they get slammed with a recapture penalty. When he's 35 and is only making a million per year for three years, he'll probably retire early and go either play or just go live in Europe.

Not a bad pick up for someone who needs help NOW.

Too shortsighted for me, considering you're sacrificing cap down the road with the recapture penalty.

Incorrect.

If he retired early and was traded this season the only team that would be hit with any cap recapture would be Buffalo. The team he went to would actually have a negative cap benefit and no penalty at all.

Buffalo would still get the recapture penalty, not the team he is traded to.

Ya Feaster's decisions have really crushed our ability to be competitive...
So how are the Devils this year?

Are you really comparing Jay Feaster to Lou Lamoriello? Granted we're in a transition period since we are a small market team and we lost our captain to a $98 million 13 year contract after drafting and developing him for years.. We're entering a different era with Marty and Elias getting ready to pass the torch after making the playoffs 15 out of 17 years... But you guys were close with that O'Reilly offer sheet! Feaster is knocking on the door of greatness.

Pretty self serving approach there. Excuses. Your team sucks and no 1st this year (reaaaaaaaallll smart move by Lou to not give the 29th pick 2 draft ago).

Feaster has been just fine. His trades were lack lastur but now with Burke in the mix, we have a great management team. Bash Feast if you want, but it looks like he did a great job preparing for the inevitable rebuild we are now in. Our FA signings have been solid.
