The Oil is getting him and Miller for Yakupov and someone else.
- nayefj

Miller has apparently declined to waive his limited NTC to go to Edmonton.

Curious to see who ends up going in Buffalo and who stays. Since no matter how much losing sucks keeping some vets around to help guide things out of the hole after the losing should be over is key.
- FlareKnight

The only issue is most of the vets have laready checked out. and it is pretty obvious to see.

I wouldnt be surprised to see a lot moved on this team. And then 1-2 minor pieces added as FA's in the offseason in terms of veteran presence.

Even if you took the best players from the Islanders and Buffalo, the merged team would still suck

Pretty much the same thing. He didn't want to play for them.
- mighty13duck

on july 1st he could have signed anywhere he wanted.

van, nyi and buf all got to talk to him before july 1. that was what you traded for.

trading for negotiating rights is a risk. however the isle's ended up getting a 4th from buf for the 4th they gave up to van.

12 games into the season, 7 pts spread between Isles and Leafs and you feel you can make that statement... :lol you are the type of fan that makes other Leaf fans look bad. They need a special side blog for guys like you to talk about their delusions of grandeur ....you are feeling high and mighty and I don't dispute the Leafs look good..that said , its very very early.

Don't the Leafs looks great at the start of the season every year?

Yea. Just wait until Kessel goes into his yearly food induced coma and stops scoring for a few games

The contract is far from insane.

From 2014-2015 on, it looks like this...

4,000,000
4,000,000
3,000,000
1,000,000
1,000,000
1,000,000

He makes $6M his last 4 years COMBINED. That is hardly tough to take.

- kingcong39

I don't know why people always say this. the real dollars aren't generally what's important. unless maybe your phoenix or something, these owners aren't tight for money. I can promise you katz aint and would spend anything to make this team a winner I bet.

the only thing that's truly important is the cap hit and how it affects your cap structure long term.
1 million real dollars in his last year is meaningless. but that 4 mil cap hit at 38/39 years of age isn't.

it's really not the worst contract ive ever seen by any means. 4 for a dman of his caliber is great number right now. and id wager will be for another 4.

it's those last 2 or 3 id worry about

Apparently Miller has made it clear that he's not going to Edmonton (and who could blame him?)

Maybe Edmonton would try for Ehrhoff and Ott.

Isles don't want that head case. Hes not good, refused to report to us a couple of years ago and deserves what he gets.
- mighty13duck

Pretty sure NYI just traded for his rights. He was about to become a UFA and the Islanders couldn't get him signed, nothing wrong with that. That's not the same as not reporting.

- whipper334

only number you need to look at is 4mil/yr. length of the contract is what rich owners and buyouts are for.

4mil for a top2/top4 pairing D man is peanuts...

He is really good- when interested. looks like hes kinda checked out this year though...
