I dont think Dion is any better defensively than Yandle, Subban etc.

Just because Dion spends more time on the PK doesn't mean he is better defensively. Also, I just think these D men are better overall than he is...if you are looking for someone to kill dion's 3 minutes of PK time per game, then find someone in your bottom pairing that can do that.

to each their own. Im not one of those posters on here who calls names etc. Agree to disagree.

Sidenote, any tough guys on the flames? Im getting sick of not seeing the typical fight(s) this season for the leafs, especially now that Orr and Mclaren are both back.

Is jackman a legit heavyweight?

Jackman's a light heavyweight. More like Prust. McGrattan will play with the big boys though.

I'm going out on the limb here, as the Leafs could easily lose tonight to the Flames, but watch tonights game and watch Phaneuf closely. I'm pretty sure you're going to see a much different d-man then you remember, says the guy who wanted Dion gone from 2009 to 2012.

I said dion was going to have a great year and looks like I was right so far

there's the key... I've always like Dion, there are just a few over zealous Leafs fans (yes hard to believe they ARE out there) that believe he IS the top D-man in the league. Top 20, sure, elite... He's asking for elite term and $ and will likely get it. not a knock on the Leafs, just reality of the league in the cap era.

I watch Dion every Saturday night!

Don't get me wrong fellas! Dion's game is solid, but I think inking him for 7-8 for 7-8 is not the right move for the Leafs IMO. That's all

I believe were running the same lineup as last night except with Bernier starting. Good luck scoring any goals on the Bernerrrrr!

Lupul on the 3rd line with Ashton and McClement cause of the sore foot. Knocks Bodie out and Orr to the 4th.

Orr and McGrattan are gonna scrap tonight. Orr is due for one!

So is McGratton to be honest.

I don't want to get into the whole fighting discussion, but I do feel sorry for these guys. I'm sure they've been circling this date on there calendar for a while. Must be pretty stressful.

Still think that Lupul is game time decision tbh...back to back games, not worth the risk if you ask me.

The problem with giving dion his market value is the leafs keep giving guys Mather value then they will run into cap problems

When you compare dion to other guys in that price range it looks like a bad contract but they have to give it to him ... Kessel compared to other guys getting paid his money ... Looks like a bad contract but they had no choice ..... To pay a clarkson that kind of money ... Looks like a bad contract ... But they wanted him so they paid ... Everyone rips on feaster for hudler and wideman ... Those contracts look pretty good compared to some of the deals out there now

Different players yes ...different roles ? Not really outside of dion being the captain
Both play pp pk top pairing minutes

JBo is soft as kleenex and his offense is offensively bad. Just saying. And he's ON team canada already? hmmmm.

As a #1, Dion is much better. Fitting into a solid d core like STL, you may have a point. Replace Dion with JBO currenlty on the leafs, not a good thing.

J bo doesn't run around like dion being physical I agree ... But he also doesn't make the poor choices dion does ... As for his offense compared to dion ... Dion has a more shoot first mentality and j bo is pass first ... J bo coming out of his own end is better and faster .... When j bo is on the ice my only worry is he might not be physical enough ... When dion is on the ice I am holding my breath that he doesn't (frank) up

J-Bo doesn't make the same level of mistakes as Dion does. Soft, perhaps but a much smarter player. Thats why he'll be in Sochi and Dion won't

I don't agree with this at all....but anyway's....

Here's my list of D the Leafs should want over Dion:

Karlson
Subban
Letang
Weber
Doughty
Bouwmeester
Piterangelo (sp?)
Keith
Seabrook
Doughty
Yandle
Suter
Chara
Bieksa (maybe, haha)
Boyle
Kronwall
Ekman-Larson

That's about it probably...

EDIT: My point isn't to rag on Dion but you could throw some money at Franson, lock him up. Then maybe add a UFA like Girardi or Niskanen and I think the team would be better off. Just my opinion.

- The-O-G

For the most part, he is right....if you commit to playing the shutdown D you have to give in your offensive game and if you commit to offense (as a dman) you are going to sacrifice in your d game - not rocket science, just common sense.
