Even a simple move like N.schultz and a pick for Weaver and Bergehim. Or instead of Bergenheim get Mathias.
Don't need to make a blockbuster, look for upgrades that can spark. (frank) even get Gilbert, his advanced stats are looking decent for a guy that no one wanted. - Lahey
You see these teams with role players, fringe 2nd/3rd liners and the right grinders getting it done all the time.
Good situational play along with a good strategy can make these guys valuable abd able to produce wins against far more talented teams on a regular basis. |

Mathias could be a decent pick up. I think the Oil would like to be harder to play against than Gilbert is. Weaver on the other hand brings a bit of grit to his game |

Jones was kinda an example last night. If Jones was on Toronto and played like he did last night, people would be crying to get him.
We can probably use 5 or 6 pieces at this point, some just aren't obtainable. Some you don't want to try for at this point, but the others you should be looking for.
We aren't one player away from being a good team. Fix what you can while you can. |

I didn't realize until now that Gilbert was doing that well. I don't think he's a fit, but if you could get him for dirt cheap it might be worth a try. Worse case scenario you have the guy.

Even if the Oilers were treading water like at .500 and could at least piss on the closest playoff team, you can make a move without being in a totally powerless position. Any move he makes now is from a totally powerless position and would only be a negative value trade. Maybe it takes that to wake everyone up. Maybe it just makes everything worse. - DTF69
Yeah we'd be talkin one of those super rare blockbusters, 10 player deals or something.
Maybe with a team like Philly. Both teams have some talented deck chairs they can attempt to rearrange. |

Not sure.
We all know we want the grit/ two-way/ or size they possess.
Holmgren has never been scared to shake it up that's for sure.
To be a fly on the wall in the Oilers war room...I wonder if Mac-T is even makin' calls and if he is, what's he looking for?
Whether he truly believes in this current course and let the dust settle into 2014.
Trade talks evolve though too, you go in asking about player X stay at home D-man and hang-up the phone pondering an offer for something above and beyond. |

I think they might try to grab Big Buff from the Jets. Or Coburn more likely from the Flyers. Simmonds would look nice but cost a lot.
I still think they should try to snag Maroon from the ducks. Probably cheaper, but he hasn't proven much... I just have feeling in a year he will be great 2nd/3rd liner that could put points up playing with Edm talent. He's tough and gritty as well. |

B.Schenn or Couturier or Coburn. I don't care about the details, that's just a couple of guys I'd like to get. Hell, Hartnell would be great too. him and Jones can have a flow-off! |

For sure on Simmonds. That's a given - what would you give up for him? I wonder if Philly is bad enough in coming months they would accept our 1st rounder...
I think I'd be willing to give up a top-seven pick for any proven gritty player that brings some dimension we need.
Don't know much about Maroon, is he on their 4th line? |

It depends on the deal for Simmonds, I would like them to take hemmer just for cap space and Simmonds would take his spot on the 2nd line. Maybe yak could get you Simmonds and couburn maybe + I really don't know.
Might be Ekblad if this continues haha
He was then he took Penners spot with Getz and Perry. He's got 3 or 4 fights and a + player. Looks like he can skate for a big man too. |

That's it, avatar switch until the Oilers have as many points as games played. Unfortunately, they would have to go on a six-game winning streak for that to happen. - Ryan Garner
Late to the party. I've had mine for a while now and have said it stays until they make the playoffs. Maybe next year... |

a 19 year old kid is struggling defensively at the NHL level with less than a full year under his belt? Kids horrible, bail on Nail. Worst. Player. Ever. - SpoiledByOil
a 15 yr old kid on an elite team has had his butt kicked for many many years on defensive assignments and non-selfish play. Yakupov is playing extremely immature and I am worried he may not have the mental capacity to dig deeper and play a complete game. I love watching the kid with the puck, but I loved Robbie Schremp too (they are far apart skill wise, but you get the idea).
None of the other comparable rookies are playing this irresponsibly. |

So the consensus is "hold off. Dont do anything drastic cause we might regret it. Let this season play out as she's pretty much cooked anyway and hope that we at least finish in respectable position".
Not sayin it's wrong. Just curious if thats where most of us are at. - hugefemale dog77
Where we're at? I think a lot of us are almost to the point of shrugging our shoulders and going "meh". and that's bad. |

If we weren't struggling no one would say poop. It's not like he is playing much different than he did for most of last year. |

Well Yakupov came from a winning junior team where he did not have to defend. His job was to score goals and that's what he excelled at. Last year was the same thing, he scored went through a slump and tore up the league when he was put into a position to succeed. In my opinion he needs to be taught by a veteran forward on how to play a 2 way game better and to become a better player. But in order to do this he shouldn't be relying on Hemsky and Gagner, Gordon as the veterans to teach him. Too bad Messier couldn't come and teach him for a few weeks on how to play a defensive game.
Id say the oilers #1 issue right now is injuries and not coaching. The team has gone through a poop load of coaches and enough is enough, you can't build a team by switching systems every year or two. Without having our top guys in the lineup and relying on a bunch of career AHL players (no offence to Arco) the team shouldn't be judged here.
If you guys want an immediate fix then lets say get a Defensemen that would be a #1/2 here and start from there. Lets say the Oilers restart talks with Philly for Coburn and are able to get him for N Schultz, Lander and a 4th. I'd do that in a heartbeat. as our D corps only have Smid, Schultz and Ferrence as the vets to teach the youngsters.
Sure our goaltending has been the poops but without a sufficient D-Core in front we can be expected to be destroyed in corsi, goals and GAA for our tenders. Labarbera though should not be here after how Bachman has played and I don't blame him at all for the last 2 games.
Also who the (frank) is this Ekblad everyone is yapping about. |

I watch SOA and Walking Dead. BB is over now. ( ) Other than that documentaries and hockey. I've watched only 2 games this year. Just too painful. |
