So the consensus is "hold off. Dont do anything drastic cause we might regret it. Let this season play out as she's pretty much cooked anyway and hope that we at least finish in respectable position".

Not sayin it's wrong. Just curious if thats where most of us are at.

I'm not agreeing to that. I'm not saying blow it up, but I am saying that we need to do a couple of solid trades, and think Yakupov would benefit from some time in OKC.

What would it take to get Anderson out of Ottawa?

Poop man - you know it's bad when we're reaching for Jultz to go to the wing.
Interesting though...

I do want to see Larssen play.

- Salvo

No harm in trying, is there? I mean, we could benefit from it!

I think we will do something, but it's not going to be Yak. These kids need to buy into NHL hockey, if they don't it's not going to matter that we traded one of the kids. I think outside of 3rd liner winger with a skillset like Gordon that our forwards have enough to be good enough.

Defense is another story. They to are making dumb plays, but we need more physical play out of them. We have 3 guys in Ference, Smid and N.Schultz, all whom have looked decent at times lately problem is none of them have offense. Need to upgrade one of them at some point.

Yak to the AHL makes no sense right now. Kid is actually playing now and doing not bad. AHL for someone like him could ruin him or the relationship with him.

You may as well play through it and get a higher pick as possible really. As painful as it is for the fans, it's the best outcome. Try and get Ekblad. If you really wanna push it, do the same for McDavid and then surely you guys have a dynasty happening Not trolling, i just don't see the point of finishing 20th when you can finish 29th (apart from the fans)
- walshyleafsfan

I do.

Ive said it a million times as i truly believe it; you cant keep letting these kids know nothing but losing for years and then expect them to turn it around and suddenly devop a winning culture. This will be 4 years of bottom feeding for ebs and hall.

These teams learn to win a little at a time and eventually know theyre elite and can beat any team. These kids dont have near that confidence and how could they? Very fragile right now im sure.

I watched this winning culture happen to a canuck core over a few seasons and eventually become elite. A couple playoff losses, one furthur round etc. It becomes systemic. Both ways.

Failing again for ekblad would be terrible for this franchise imo.

We are missing Hall IMO. Everytime he had the puck something could happen. Since he's been down we haven't had that consistent threat. Next Saturday can't come quick enough.

Pretty much.

I mean, there is a little 'might regret it' but am open to the bold moves Mac-T talked about. Of course now seems like the worst time to do one. A rare occasion to find the right dance partner right now.

So yeah, most moves won't change the fortunes now anyway but am still open to them if they make the team better, I guess that's as redundant as our top 7 forwards - fukk sakes we've barely played in our division yet.

i will agree with you, only because I'm venting my frustration and I know I'm most likely wrong with my ideas. It was just a thought that it could help more than hinder.

Even if the Oilers were treading water like at .500 and could at least piss on the closest playoff team, you can make a move without being in a totally powerless position. Any move he makes now is from a totally powerless position and would only be a negative value trade. Maybe it takes that to wake everyone up. Maybe it just makes everything worse.

Sending #1 overalls to the AHL is risky business. We got lucky with the lockout, but Hall, Eberle and RNH learned (frank) all down there anyway. They were too good and didn't work on their game.

anyone that watched OKC last year always talks about how they struggled against structured teams that executed well. Now here we are wondering why they have the same issues in the NHL.

Good post.

Ive noticed some hatin on hall for his poor decisions etc, and maybe that's fair.

But his unique skill set, ability to drive the play and impact for us cant be overstated enough.

He's our best player and heart and soul

why can't we trade with one of the other half-dozen gong show teams?

What people need to remember is while he makes mistakes, he was also lighting the lamp. You produce you can make some errors.

This could be it.

Ive whined and moaned about making a move that could potentially help us now AND going forward.
But maybe mact has made a few pitches, and trading partner tries to do him raw.
Weigh your options and decide to stand pat instead..

with Stauffer yapping about getting a tougher right handed dman for the #6 spot I got a feeling Deryk Engelland will be a guy they look at. He's from Edm and he's cheap at 600 000. Plus the Pens don't play him much, but there's prolly a reason why.

I think the only one that we know to be down without a doubt is buffalo.

But theyre of a completely different rebuilding mindset and know people will come calling. I assume theyd still be in a position of strength versus us.

Philly just won a couple. Wins change everything surrounding a team.

Florida is an enigma. Are they sellers, standing pat, trying to get better?

Even a simple move like N.schultz and a pick for Weaver and Bergehim. Or instead of Bergenheim get Mathias.

Don't need to make a blockbuster, look for upgrades that can spark. (frank) even get Gilbert, his advanced stats are looking decent for a guy that no one wanted.

Also have Dallas, NJ and WSH. All 3 that expect to be contenders. Dallas and WSH have been rumored to be looking at d-men in the past. Vet like N.Schultz might fit. It's just too bad he didn't level whoever it was last night and got suspended. Then teams would take him for sure.
