Duchene. Has one goal less than Ovi so far, with half the shot attempts. And is the #1 center on a 10-1 team.

- BorjeFan4Ever

Google "rod hockey table." I think the one we had as kids that was made by Munro.

They're one and two points ahead of the Canucks, also, San Jose has such a deep lineup compared to the Canucks I think Hank has SO FAR been more valuable to his team than any one Shark player. As for Colorado, I haven't watched them enough to give an informed opinion.

the Nucks have played 14 games to SJ's 12 and Colorado's 11

no question he's important. he's the best player in the world. but when hes not playing, do they struggle to score, or do the goals get spread around more?
do they fail to stay near the same spot in standings?

hell, they've got another player who's top 5 in the world too. who's also won a hart. how can they have 2 mvps?
id argue malkins was well deserved by carrying the team during crosbys absence

- hugefemale dog77

It is a yearly award one player can be more valuable than the other by year, and it is a league award not a team award Crosby is the most valuable player to the NHL.

Leafs fans and management would never allow that....It would be one more thing that corsi has proven to be correct on....

Give it to Wings' Defensemen Brendan Smith. He has pretty much given our losses to other teams. Thats the league MVP right there.

Yes I'm aware of this, that said, I still maintain - without Hank the Canucks would be in a lot worse shape than the Sharks or Avalanche without their best players. Thus he's more valuable to his team.

that sums it up very nicely.

seriously though... people do say that Dubnyk does try really hard

I thought Richard Backman was going to win the MVP this year? He's a bit like Ovie. He played really well but still lost.

Dude, Alex Steen has 10 goals in 9 games, and is on even more of a torrid pace. Why write about a guy that gets press all the time?

So based on this defensive play is not part of even strength play

Great inference, Saul Kripke. What's next on your agenda?

I'll argue every time that the MVP cannot be a player that's a negative +/-. But then, statistics showed that the Capitals were better last year in a goals for/against per minute while Ovie was not on the ice, and he still won the MVP. Yeah, he made his own team worse when he was on the ice, but won the MVP. That makes a lot of sense. So, clearly the people who vote on things like this don't let much outside of "DUDE DID YOU SEE THAT GOAL?!?!!11" weigh into their voting.

Heck, this year Ovechkin is currently a -6 and his team's total goal differential is -4. Yep, MVP.

Definitely not Ovie. Hot start for sure, but not MVP.

My gut would say steen, who is on fire, but a lot of that comes from his health and hes far from the only offensive talent on the team.

Realistically, probably duchene or stamkos.

The PHWA should be ashamed for giving #8 the Hart last year.

And as for the captain issue, how many captains pull the kind of crap Ovie pulled in that philly game last season that Milbury ripped him for on NBCSN? http://youtu.be/aicwKSikBeM

Bc that was absolutely pathetic. ESPECIALLY from a captain.

This is his 5th season, and he missed a grand total of 24 games that one season. Hurt his ankle, tried to play through it, then hurt his groin bc he favoured his ankle coming back too early.

I think playing 92% of the possible games he has been in the league. Yeah injury plagued for sure.

- DDM-Coga

yeah hes played just over 4 full seasons worth of games, and im with you saying hes incredible.

I am so sorry that I got your panties in a knot when I over-assessed how long Duchene was out that season, I thought it was longer...I am forever sorry.

I think the only way to truly evaluate the "Most Valuable Player" would be to poll every player on every team and have them decide the "Most Valuable Player" on each team. Then the league votes on the 30 MVPs to determine the true MVP. The only problem is each team may not necessarily need the same thing! There is no guidelines for what makes a player valuable but a valuable player does whatever the team needs him to do. I suppose Ovechkin has reached that point in Washington but that is only because he has had a team built around him (not trying to belittle anything AO has done by any means, love the guy!) and I don't feel he would be as effective on a team that hasn't been tailor-made for him. Ovechkin would be a welcome addition to any team I'm sure though the environment may not be ideal to support his style of play (example. Rick Nash in NY)

I'll chime in to agree with those that say OV is not the MVP so far and shouldn't have been last year. If Crosby stays healthy it won't even be close.

Crosby is the MVP, besides that theres another ahead of Ovechkin. Henrik Sedin just goes head to head with Ovechkin and beats him, Sedin is second in league scoring ahead of Ovechkin and plays 24 minutes a night, Ovechkin didnt even play 20 on that night but pretty sure the Sedin is more valuable to his team since there second line is Higgins Santorelli and Burrows. Just like you Ek come out with this right after that game when Sedin's showed there dominance against the guy your talking about. Last place Canadian team to be considered a contender, etc. Enjoy the Flyers train wreck and give credit where due.
