i dunno steen is a machine.

i think STL has only played 9 games...he has 10 goals.

- big_dion

Crosby, Stamkos, and Ovi have all done it multiple times in the past.

Steen will most likely, see a dramatic regression, while the other three will maintain, maybe regress a little bit. At least if we go by history..maybe Steen can keep it up, but generally, we see players with hot starts go back to where they should be in production.

He's a -6 for a reason, because his defensive game is complete ass and always has been. He hurts his team as much as he helps. Judging the MVP soley on goals is just stupid. The capitals have tons of talent yet they still can't go anywhere.

I really wonder if you actually watch hockey...

He' a -6 because the team's even strength play sucks. His defensive game does suck. But, the two aren't really connected.

Curious, what is all this talent we supposedly have?

I can't believe people are still fooled by this guy after all we've seen. He's nowhere near the best player in the world, never was. He's a great scorer and a flashy player and that's about it. He's probably not even the best goal scorer anymore.
- Jeffmt

No one is fooled.
He's not the best player in the world.
But he is a very good player, who can and HAS dominated a game when he wants to.

Pretty obvious that if the season ended today, Duchene would have this locked up.

Then again...the season didn't end today which is probably best.

- Fols19

People laughed when I suggested Duchene had a really good chance at making the Canadian Olympic team. If he keep up this pace, I'd say he's a lock. He's making plays, scoring, solid two way game and wins the majority of the faceoffs.

That being said, the MVP is almost always given to the player who gets the most goals or points. Barring no major setbacks this year, it goes to Sid, hands down.

You really believe that the AVs would be where they are without the combined .960 save %
- Iggysbff

no.

but that's just it; combined.

giguere has 3 of there 10 wins and put up insane numbers. im not taking anything away, but it's not varlamov on his own.
while Duchene is the best forward by a mile on one of the best teams

Sorry, but I refuse to give credit to Ovi "dominating" the game, when it was Backstrom who stripped the puck, deked out a defender, and played it right in Ovi's wheelhouse for an easy snipe.

Ovi hasn't dominated a game in like 3 or 4 years.

I'm surpirsed that BigD's "Steen is on another level" comment hasn't attracted more attention.

steen is a scorer and a hard nosed player.

hence why he has had injury problems in the past.

im not taking anything away from ovi, stammer or sid. i just think steener may have been hidden due to all his injury trouble.

and i sure do expect him to slow down....hes is on pace for 90+ goals.

The Avs are playing like a team in midseason form. Varly credits his early success to his D-Core and forwards. They are clearing lanes and rebounds so there are hardly and 2nd and 3rd chances. Forwards are coming back picking up their man and ready for the break out pass. The D hardly ever carries it out of their own zone. Its pass and out. He has been stellar, but is doesnt have to stand on his head to win games. Its a good system at the momement

good post!!

when Theodore won it, he was standing on his head night after night and stealing games. varlamov has been rock solid, but this isn't the case.

Duchene seems to be unstoppable right now. and considering where most people thought the avs would be and their remarkable turn around, i find it mystifying how most people aren't mentioning him in the top 3 of this debate
