No one gives 100% every shift, every night.

ovi is lazy, but to say he took a whole half season off is just inane. His perceived laziness is really because he sucks in all other facets of the game. useless on the forecheck, useless on the backcheck...so why not float around looking for one-timers, since he obviously will never play good hockey.

so lazy?

Is your reading comprehension that bad? Do you not see when I said "Ovi is lazy,".. ? At the beginning of the paragraph, even.

Get off your computer, and open a book man.

If the question is best player in the league, is it really close? It's Crosby, by a decent margin. Stamkos and OV are beasts, but Crosby is simply on another level and will continue to prove that as the season goes on and he runs away with the scoring title. Again.

Most valuable to their team? You can make a strong case for OV. Anyone that says he takes shifts off should probably factor in the 7+ shots he gets in a game. If that is what happens when he takes 'shifts off,' that is some serious productivity when he is 'trying.' Leadership and defensive capabilities should definitely knock him down a few pegs. He's all offense. It's great if you're scoring more goals than anyone else. If you're allowing that many more odd man rushes because you make risky plays and don't backcheck, it sure strips down the value you provide in the offensive zone.

Steen is playing fantastic, and is far more well-rounded. You could make a case. Although, the Blues would still probably be a playoff team without him.

I don't think it would be hard to make cases for Varlamov or Stamkos, either.

how is Duchene NOT in the conversation?

his team isn't meant to be nearly as good as steens. there turnaround thus far is asounding.

even with the avs hot start, is there many people who think the avs are a better team than the blues?

so by definition of mvp......

You really believe that the AVs would be where they are without the combined .960 save %

Obviously not, but (frank) it, why would anyone need proper reading comprehension on a forum, right?

Sigh...lets go through this;
Actually, him and Hunter had and still have a good reputation. As does him and Oates..apparently. BB was going to be fired whether Ovi was on this team and you know that.
Can you show me specific articles, youtube videos, interviews, etc of him getting frustrated or disinterested by being told to do something differently? Because, actually, I can find tons for you about him being positive about the move to RW, Oates, Hunter, etc..
Caps training camp was over when he left.
A Russian player said that he would prefer to play in Russia for the Olympics than honor his NHL contract? Oh man, kill the commie now.

Any more blanket statements you got for me? Or are you actually going to critique his play, which has tons of holes?

- Blackstrom2

When I said he gets frustrated and disinterested I was critiquing his play, I wasn't talking about what he was saying to the media.

As for Hunter, maybe they're ok on a personal basis but it's no secret that he didn't enjoy coaching him. He called Boudreau a "fat (frank)" on the bench, in front of the whole team. True statement or not, a leader doesn't say that in front of the team. If you're going to undermine your coach you do it behind closed doors.

I don't care if you're Russian, Swedish, American, Canadian, if you captain an NHL hockey team you don't get to leave your team high and dry for your own personal pursuits, Olympics included.

Steen and Stamkos are the only 2 worth a conversation about if the vote is not going to Crosby at this point IMO

As it currently stands, Ovie is on a non-playoff team (that isn't an expansion team or something similar) and therefore isn't even in the running.

As for forwards on playoff teams, no one is close to Crosby, except for maybe Stamkos (and he's still not even really close). To mention any other forward at this time, is just stupid.

I think people are just used to the fact that Sid is going to dominate the league, but you can't take him for granted. He plays with one guy who has never been a point per game player (until last year) in Kunitz, and another who would be on most teams 3rd line and still dominates the league. Stamkos plays with another superstar in Marty St. Louis.

OK, so now that it's obvious that Crosby is the only forward in the running, we have to look at goalies and Dmen.

Right now, the only one of those close, is Varlamov. He is taking a mediocre team and helping make them great.

Everyone else can use the same stick and it doesn't work like that for them....

- Iggysbff

HAHA that was a joke dude, ovi's stick is so lame. his passing percent must be like 20%.

ovi, pass? sorry my mistake!

The bolded part says Crosby even more. Take him away and Kunitz/Dupuis make up a bad 2nd line or a good 3rd line.

Well, how convenient that we are both N. Americans and care more about the NHL. I don't really care to get into this any more.

Ovi is not a very good hockey player, and that's where it ends and starts. All that bs about captaincy, Sochi, etc..who (frank)ing cares. he's a glorified power forward, and that's it. He hits, he shoots well. If the Caps expect to do anything with their core, they need their 9.5 mil/yr man to do more than shoot and hit.

Based on that criteria shouldn't the MVP be Steen with 10 goals in 9 games and the same amount of points as OV.

I can't believe people are still fooled by this guy after all we've seen. He's nowhere near the best player in the world, never was. He's a great scorer and a flashy player and that's about it. He's probably not even the best goal scorer anymore.
