There's a mountain of evidence that suggests you are wrong in general about Corsi events. Individually though there is no accounting for a hot goalie.

by far more important than any stat. i agree they have bearing, i love individual player stats. I agree they obviously hold true in some, not all cases. But these corsi stats are used by leaf bashers, and it's amusing to me. 60 games so far going back to last year, just waiting for our 'luck' to run out...

It feels like they are Leaf bashers but the reality is just that the Leafs are riding uncharacteristically high percentages. If it were the Oilers then they would look like Oiler bashers. It's a great story line, IMO.

The Oilers will be okay in the long run if they don't panic. Not all 1st overall picks are Crosbys and Ovechkins. A player usually only reaches their prime around 23-26 years old. So far - of the youth movement - only Eberle has just reached that age.

The only thing they miss out on compared to PIT and CHI is that they probably won't have these 1st overall picks at bargain entry level deals by the time their team is ready to contend. Also I don't think any of these guys are on the Crosby, Malkin, Letang, Toews, Kane level of talent. But time will tell as they age and develop.

***edit: GO LEAFS GO!

One thing I wanted to say on this point, and I think it's important, is that the young guns in Edmonton have had no real veteran leadership. It takes a lot of effort, work, drive, and mental ability to be able to dominate the game. Edmonton's young guns have been surrounded by the likes of Hemsky, Horcoff, Penner, Smyth, and Khabibulin. All of them have had health, work ethic, or personal problems.

Lemeiux came out of retirement to teach Sid the Kid, and then paired him with Gary Roberts (one of the hardest working guys in the game). Chicago brought up their kids with guys like Lapointe, Havlat, Robert Lang, Brian Campbell, and eventually Marian Hossa.

"Reimer is apparently in. Must be just to let the Oilers know what they cant get for a 1st overall pick."

1st alone won't do it...Leafs know they need Reimer.
Maybe 1st and Yakapoo

Well with Lupul having bought 20+ tickets in the arena I think he's probably going to get himself in the lineup if he can skate at all.

If the Leafs are only outshot by 8 or so that's probably alright . I don't think being outshot is a big deal long as it doesn't reach ridiculous levels. When your special teams are good, have a good shutdown line/pairing, and goaltending isn't letting you down you can usually manage. One aspect 'shots' isn't the only stat that matters at the end of the day.

I think most would suggest 8 IS ridiculous. Of course you are right about there being more to it all than just shot attempts. Naturally I want to see the Leafs come crashing down but if they don't then the next question has to be "Why?" because that's the prediction.

Good points by yourself and Njuice. In either case when you're looking for answers as we are mid-build here, the mix isn't quite right. Still maturing and perhaps better vets would help but as far as work ethic the likes of Horcs and Smyth should be more then enough on that level.

Yep, as they say, small sample sizes are one thing which is why guys like Dellow were predicting it would simply catch up.

We know all about small sample sizes. We rope a doped our way through two playoff rounds in '06.

Because we are just that awesome. Also the guys we have playing big minutes also have the ability to be dangerous anytime and they seem to be able to make the most of their opportunities.

And that's it. Our special teams have been gahbage - goal-tending on the PK as well.

A few main factors...whatever though. We were so bad 5 on 5 that it didn't matter how good our special teams were last year. Though we were in the mix with 10 games to go and just poop the bed.
