Soooooooooooooooooooooo...........

Does Reimer get the back to back call, or is Bernier tonight?

- faceto27

Gotta be Reimer, he's playing amazingly, I'd keep with him, even in a back to back

Trying to decide between a JVR or a Rielly Jersey. I love JVR's game and it's probably a little less popular but Morgan is a beaut. His skating and hockey sense is brilliant. One thing I've noticed about Rielly is that he can pivot very fast and rarely gets beat to the outside. Even when it looks like the player might have a step on him.

I picked up my Pro Rielly jersey last week

I was going to say that Patches has won more awards but Phil won Masterton as well.

Phaneuf wants $7.1M a year.

Leafs have unavoidably shot themselves in the foot with contracts. Sure it doesn't feel like it but when you hand out $8M for Kessel, $5.25M for Clarkson; something's going to catch up with you. They got good value with JVR + Lupul combining for $9.5M but 42.3M locked up for next year. Franson Gardiner-RFA, Phanuef Fraser Ranger-UFA...etc..

This is a post from an Ottawa fan on another thread... Sigh.

Yesterday's game would be a perfect set of data to figure out the limitations of Corsi .

I'll give it a shot. I think Shot distance is what's missing from the equation.

Taking the league average of distance in all shot events in the NHL. Let this count as "1". From blue line to goal line is 64 ft. Take the distance of the shot, divide by 64. Calculate the difference between the percentage of the average and the percentage of the shot-event and add that to one.

I.E.

1 + (AverageShotDistance/64 - ShotDistance/64)

Using real numbers:

Assume the average shot distance is 32 ft (halfway into the zone), and a shot event occurs 18ft out.

1 + (32/64 - 18/64)
1+ (0.5 - 0.28)
1.22.

That means that a shot attempt at 32 ft counts as 1, a shot attempt at 18 feet counts as 1.22 and a shot attempt at 46 ft only counts as 0.78.

How does this change things? It rewards teams more for getting into high percentage areas with the puck, and rewards them less for launching a ton of muffins and hoping for the best. And maybe, it could explain how teams that get out shot-attempted still manage to produce well.

Nah, lot of shots and lots of contact last night. Go with Bernier. Should be 2 pts tonight, no reason to risk it on a tired goalie.

Leafs won corsi last night?

James Mirtle ‏@mirtle 10h
Leafs pummeled on shot clock in third period but it's pretty well irrelevant when you're up 4-0. Their "close" stats won't be affected.

James Mirtle ‏@mirtle 10h
The Leafs actually outshot Edmonton when the score was close, according to @ExtraSkater http://www.extraskater.co...-10-29-maple-leafs-oilers

mc79hockey ‏@mc79hockey 10h
Yep. If you ever want to understand score effects, this is a good game for it.

Lupul broke his femur after 65 screaming girls jumped on him. I don't know man, I guess they already felt he was rewarded with the girls so they gave the award to Max.

play bernier tonight

100%.

reimer played great, rest him, prep him for saturday.

IMO right now reimer is our go to until he falters...this is the luxury of having 2 great goalies.
