Go ahead, name me the Phanuef replacement we could trade for...and what we would have to give up for them, and how much they will cost the Leafs salary wise?
- Cooshie

JBo... Similar minutes, reasonable at putting up points. Plays a good defensive game, would pair well with Rielly in the future.

Shattenkirk; not quite there in terms of minutes, but good salary and production.

Both have better contracts than Dion, and are locked in for a few years. JBo would work better for now, KS better for the future.

JBo would be cheaper, but no idea as to price...

Alright, I'm curious. Who replaces Phaneuf (via trade I guess) and what does it cost? I'll try and refute them for you.

Well, please tell us, who will replace his minutes??
Very interested...

- Cooshie

That is my #1 worry if we lose Dion. He's a big minute muncher who can play at both ends of the ice. On the current Leaf roster, no one can replace what Dion does.

That could mean she's a desert or an Ocean. Guess it depends. But I'm sorry to hear. I award you a free shot at my mother.

It'd start with a first for either, and from there who knows. They'll want a replacement or a prospect whose near in value. Gardiner? Franson? Perhaps one of our better prospects like Gauthier.

That's a lot for a similar player or marginally better player. Shattinkirk doesn't play those kind of minutes though, which then increases the TOI for the remainder of the defense core which we agree is rather weak. Fraser gets exposed as does Ranger. Gardiner/Franson likely wouldn't bode well. Gunnerson might, but he already has TOI exceeding 20 or more with Phaneuf.

I'd honestly rather pay that price for a top end partner for Phaneuf then let Phaneuf walk or dumo his ass for pieces we can't immediately use to get better.

Yup, if we can keep Phaneuf at a reasonable cost, it'd be great. If he really does want $7m, then we have to start exploring other options...
