Leafs don't have a choice - Phaneuf will be resigned.
Without Phaneuf, this Leaf team will not make the playoffs and there is no one out there who will replace Phaneuf (even if there was, it would still cost close to 7mill).

Some Leaf fans would prefer to not make the playoffs then pay Phaneuf like the top dman that he is.

As the saying goes, they would rather "cut off their nose to spite their face". I prefer Phaneuf + playoffs then no Phaneuf and no playoffs.

Everyone is replaceable given an adequate replacement.

We don't have anyone near Phaneuf.

Phaneuf is not replaceable on this team any time soon.

Peitrangelo signed as an RFA and Dion is obviously a UFA. You can't compare those situations.
