Rangers, Panthers, Devils, Blue Jackets, Flames, and Stars too.
- jmatchett383

Ranger, Devils, and Jackets are not likely trade partners as we are in same division. Have heard panthers trying to move Kulikov, but I am not thrilled by yet another 3-4 d-man. Not much I would want from Flames, and not sure if Stars would have what we want for our defenseman.

Oilers, Jets, and Sabres have big trade potential, which makes them more interesting to talk about.

in all seriousness, i think the reports having the Flyers still pursuing a goalie or bringing up the FLyers goalie issues are just from lazy ass reporters who have not watch a single game this year.
- nastyflyergirl

You're right. It's the easy thing for reporters who don't watch the team regularly to do.

It's been their best position on the ice.

And if it did fall apart, they are not tied to either guy after this year.

How would you guys feel if the Flyers acquired Steve Ott at some point?

The equivalent to your trades would be the Oilers offering Hemsky for Morin and Simmonds.
- PhillySportsGuy

You never know. Would you have ever called Moulson a 1st and 2nd for Vanek? Or Neal and Niskanen for Goglowski? Or Erikson + for Seguin? There is a lot that sound unlikely until they happen.

Is he a 1st line winger or Number 1 d-man?

The way I see it, the Sabres, Oilers, and Flyers all want the same thing; young talent and picks. So unless we're getting Jacob Trouba, no interest in anything on Winnipeg.

He's a 3rd line winger. One of 3 things the Flyers do not currently have.

It would be the most Flyers thing ever, IMO.

If Zac Rinaldo is lucky, it's who he could develop into.

I wonder if that 22 year old stiff Evander Kane would be able to unseat Raffl from the top line.

Yeah I can see Vanek fetching that return. A bit steep but not riduclous.
The Neal + Niskanen for GoGo was slammed as absurd at the time and still is.
Erikson for Seguin is a team that wants youth (Dallas) trading with a contending team (Boston).

I don't see the Flyers getting top-line talent for players the entire fan base has been slamming (Coburn).

Well it's been decided that Morin, Gostisbehere, Alt, and Hagg will never be more than #4 defensemen. Might as well just scrap them all and start over.
- jmatchett383

Dont forget Konan and Laurdesen. I think of all those guys, about 3 will become regular NHL defenseman. And 1 may make top pairing defenseman. Still not a bad result.

But they likely wont be impact players for 4-5 years.

I figured he was the only true untouchable on that team.

I'm not sold on either of them. Lauridsen played very nicely for a short stint, but still needs another year in the AHL to become a 3rd pair defender. Konan is nothing special to me. But hopefully, Ghost, Lauridsen, Morin, Alt, and Hagg all become at least #7s.

Well, yes. Everyone whose name isn't Crosby is available. I'm sure the Flyers could acquire Malkin for Giroux, Vinny, Read, and 17 1st round picks and 100% salary retainment.

not trying to single you out but i dont get how you guys can talk so assuredly about this guy without seeing him night in and night out

honestly how many full Jets games have you watched this year or even last year

- Crimsoninja

Not a lot. But I know enough based on what I've seen of him, and what is said about him by NHL analysts I trust such as Bill Meltzer. And if seeing a player night in and night out is the standard which is going to be used to discuss and form an opinion on a player. That eliminates the majority of players in the NHL for most fans to discuss an opinion on.

if you go back and read the statement I originally quoted it was phrased in a very definitive manner... in a way that did not make it seem like merely an opinion.

Really? I'd say that Buff at the top of his game is actually better than all of the guys mentioned. However, there is an asterisk there....

The only thing I can say for sure is that he does NOT have the innate defensive talents and anticipation as the guys above mentioned have. Otherwise, on his prime nights or when he is "on his game" he's more physical and stronger, he shoots harder than all of them except Chara or Weber (right along par with them) and can make a mess of the offensive zone with his size if he chooses to rush.

All he really needs is some excellent coaching and a style that fits his game. Otherwise, I'd say his potential ceiling with respect to his natural abilities is actually way higher than any of those D. Just my opinion though.

- Flyers_V88

Byfuglien is a very good offensive defenseman. But when discussing the overall play of defenseman in the League, all factors of the game should be considered. And Byfuglien isn't close to the level of any of those players in my opinion.

Near $3mm cap hit? No thanks. If he had Talbot's cap hit, absolutely.

I meant as a possible TDL rental acquisition, assuming we're buyers. I think he's a UFA this offseason.

To be fair there were rumors of Simmonds, Couturier, Coburn, and a 2nd for Hemsky and Yakupov.

Just like there are rumors for Voracek, Coburn, and a blue chip prospect for Buff and Little.

It's not a big suprise that Edmonton is looking for defense and Goaltending. They are dangling Yakupov, because defense and Goaltending cost more then a scoring forward.... SEE JVR for Schenn. A lot of Rumors are out of Montreal because they have the defense to give, but Nobody really has the Goaltending to trade other then Sabres. HOWEVER, Miller doesnt want to go to Canada.

So, if I'm Homer and my job is on the line anyway, I might do something drastic. Since Mason is Young and looks like he has refound his game, that might really interest Edmonton. Plus if they could get a Defenseman too.... Then Flyers need a goalie, well Miller might be coming here to replace Mason. Miller has looked really good this year and Buffalo has no choice but to trade him....

So Mason+Coburn for Yakupov. Simmonds+2014 pick for Miller.

Hartnell-Giroux-Yakupov
Schenn-Lecavalier-Voracek
Raffl-Couturier-Read
McGinn-Talbot-Rinaldo
Hall

Timonen-Meszaros
Streit-Schenn
Grossmann-Gustefsson

Miller
Emery
