It's actually $925,000.

Also, Khabby has a $300,000 bonus attached to his contract. Does that kick in if he's "buried" in the minors?

- EKolb13

I'm not sure about the bonus, but Cap Geek does not count it toward the cap right now, so I would guess it doesn't suddenly apply if he is in Rockford. Thanks for the catch on the $925K.

I want the old Khabulin back -the one who plays 5 games, pulls a groin muscle, and goes on LTIR. Play him until that happens and call up Raanta -no cap issues then.

There's always the Nancy Kerrigan option...
- EKolb13

Eli didnt you say the Simpson kid (bart or lisa?) has been playing better than Raanta so far this season for Rockford? Maybe it was someone else but if hes cheaper then could he be an option for a call up? I know its not part of the GRAND PLAN to have Raanta be the heir apparent or whatever but who knows maybe Simpson gets it done and we can trade Raanta or something.

The bigger issue here might not necessarily be the goaltending, but the poor defensive play and horrible turnovers. Granted, Khabi hasn't been particularly impressive and needs to improve, the players in front of him haven't done him (m)any favors.

I highly doubt that this early in the season, the FO makes a panic move and swaps back-up goalies. The team hasn't really gelled just yet.

- FredoXV

Don't underestimate the value of this post.

I will preface this by saying I am in no way excusing Khabi's play , but he has played in three games where the still very suspect Hawk team defense was arguably at its worst. Crawford was the recipient/victim of similar team play in the first game against the Wild.

Too many SOG being allowed by opponents this season is a good indicator that there is a lot of work yet to be done on the defensive part of their game.

If Khabi can be faulted for anything, it is his career long attitudinal tendency to give effort as his teammates give. That can only be resolved by the coaching staff - hence Q's tepid remarks after the game. Khabi is a veteran who still has a desire to win, and likely why Scotty thought him a wise choice.

The road trip will tell the story of Khabi's future with the team.

Saturday's game against Charlotte Raanta got caught a half dozen times out of the blue paint at inopportune times either behind the net or coming out to challenge a player/shot. Perhaps it's just him adjusting to the smaller ice surface and doesn't quite realize just how quick the opposition can come rushing in? Otherwise, he's seeing plenty of shots and making big saves. Overall, he looks like a pretty steady goaltender to me.
- EKolb13

I have watched 3 or 4 games on TV when he has been in the net and he seems to be pretty steady to me also. I agree about his playing the puck behind the net but in some cases there the Hog's defense has left him out to dry. He has also definitely kept them in games when the defense has poopt the bed at times.

In a different was I was saying the same today in my article..

Khabby was a target of Bowman....That's a big mistake to admit to this early especially with a vet.

Also the $$ of basically eating Khabby's salary and paying an unproven Raanta $850K more at the NHL level...

Leads me to believe they do nothing for awhile except what I wrote below...

Toews leads, Hawks win..

Correct me if I'm wrong but you just get paid 1/82 your annual NHL salary for each game you play right?

So just call him up for a game every week for a month and have Bulin back up Craw all the other nights. You're not going to play a backup more than that anyway right?

Yes but then you may as well send Khabby back to Arizona or where he lives in the offseason.

They won't don't that to a vet....And not in Raanta's best interest either.

Don't get me wrong if forced the Hawks will pay the additional salary but Khabby was a target of Bowman this summer and I don't think he will do anything for awhile.

Plus AHL much slower than NHL....Not saying Raanta can't do well here but he is not a lock.

Thanks once I got past the difference between a salary hit and a salary cap hit...

As Rick noted last night Khabby didn't play much last season....
Hawks must have thought Khabby would take some time to get into a groove...

The question is whether there is any juice left at all.

Is there still major rumblings about Habs-Hawks trade??

Bergevin and Dudley were in Chicago last night.

Heard Hawks still need a 2C, which would fit the description of Eller or Plekanec. I doubt Eller is available but Plekanec might.

Mtl still need a top 3 D. I wonder if Hjarlmarsson or Seabrook could be available.

I could see a Plekanec for Hjarlmarsson + deal or a Plekanec + for Seabrook??

I think the tank is empty at this point. He ought to kiss his agent's feet for the deal he got though.

We won a Cup without a true 2nd line centre last season so we're not desperate to make a trade like this. Hjalmarrson was just re-upped, there's no way he's going anywhere (that's an excellent cap hit). Chicago's game is so dependant on the defense for a n umber of reasons, so 2, 7 and 4 are not going anywhere. There's an outside chance Oduya could be moved but Leddy needs to step up his game before that can happen.

If you want one of our defensemen I have one here you may be interested it:
