The problem with Myers is that you get the privilege of overpaying him while you wait to see if he pans out. If he does, great, but if he doesn't you have an immovable contract with a lot of years left on it. I wouldn't even consider Myers unless they were giving him away.

This is exactly why Toronto needs to resign Dion. Losing him opens a big hole and those physical, 2-way, somewhat matured defensemen are few and far between. Next to a number one center they're just about the toughest player to acquire right now.

No Doubt! I don't put Phaneuf quite in the same category as Chara, Doughty or Weber defensively, but he produces as well and isn't that far back. Live him or hate him, I still think he's about a top 15-20 D Man.

as far as his face getting stepped on by a skate and a freak knee on knee, I don't know what to say about that. some will inexplicably call that injury prone because he's been injured before. I don't see how anyone, injury prone or not, could've changed those accidents

I wonder if WPG wants to move one of their D. They might be looking for help at C (Gagner, Arco) or some good D prospects (Klefbom) in return for taking one of their bigger cap hits on defense. Honestly though, I have no clue what direction that team is going in. Their biggest problem is that they've painted themselves into a corner with Pavelec's contract.

I'd really look into Byfuglien. You'd want him to mainly help as a defenseman but he could rotate as that big forward we're looking for.
