Yeah, ok, Vanek isn't currently surrounded by an all-star cast...but he's played with decent players before and his production doesn't improve or suffer that dramatically...and it's not that big of an upgrade production wise from Moulson.

I get that Vanek is the better player...but to me, they paid a lot to address and issue that isn't really a problem at this point.

5 on 5 scoring is what they wanted to improve. And I agree - they paid way too much.

This...

instead of Moulson's 30 goals 30 assists, they'll get Vanek's 30 goals and 35 assists?

so 5 assists are worth a 1st and a 2nd?!?

Vanek is a year younger (tough to believe since he's been around much longer...) but still...

Let's see what Vanek will do besides JT before comparing the two. He never had a center close to Tavares since his debut in the NHL. Also, we will see how good of a player Moulson is in Buffalo. (aka without Tavares).

Lots down this way - 1/3 Bruins, 1/3 Leafs, 1/3 Habs approx plus the odd Flyers, Pens and Flyers fan. We all talk like Hextal271 or w/e his name is eh Crmoarey?

You should just root for your local team...I don't care that you don't have an NHL team. Please leave right away and go to QJMHLBuzz. Thank you.

This. They need a puck moving D and a quality back-up. Or hell, even a starting goalie.

Oh, we know Vanek will at the very least maintain his production...probably improve it too...and Moulson will not...but that's not the point...

What have the Islanders gained? a few more goals and a few more assists? Is that incremental gain really worth what they paid?

The only counterpoint that makes sense is Howard's point about the 5-on-5 scoring...and no one is disputing Vanek >> Moulson... but still...steep price.
