Unfortunately, he's here to stay. There's no way a guy one foot out the door makes this trade.

So basically we traded one guy that gets chopped at like a tree in front of the net, for another less expensive guy that gets chopped at like a tree in front of the net.

One that has only missed one game in the last 4 seasons.

Vanek was just going through the motions.

Moulson will show more disire than Vanek was showing. He knows this is an audition for a new deal with the Sabres or a possible audition for a team that wants to trade for him come the deadline/sign him as a UFA.

I agree but he's got less talent than Vanek and less talent to play with.

He's practically guaranteed a goal tonight because all new guys score in their first game with this franchise. I predict he'll only get 4 points in the next 10 games.

Turning up the heat on Hodgson quite a bit, which I'm actually ok with.

I've already convinced myself Moulson will not be a Sabre long term. Whatever happens with him is gravy at this point.

All true, it may depend on what kind of money and term Moulson is looking for- ie $6m on a long term deal would be a risky move even with the gobs of cap space we will have here for the foreseeable future.
- nfph

He's not a 6 mill a year player, I think most know that. If you can lock up a 30 goal scorer for 4-5 mill and he fits in, I don't see any problems. Darcy has thrown money away on worse players.

Like I said last night, it wouldn't surprise me if he resigns here or if he's moved come the deadline.

Agree . Could have been worse. Van stays on with the Sabres till the end of the season and leaves for nothing .

Who was it that called Moulson Andreychuk light (literally)? I'll take that every day. Garbage goals, hard work in front of the net... let Hodgson shoot and bring the puck to the front. More open space behind the net these days, let's start using it.

4/5 yrs in the 4.5-5 mil per range. Any longer or more is a risk. He's not the fastest skater and speed tends to be the 1st skill that goes.

Resigning Moulson will not be a bad thing if they get the chance to, like I said worse money has gone out the door on bad players by Darcy. By the media and Sabres managament talking more about the picks then getting Moulson, maybe that will not sit well with him as to if they want him back or not. Sometimes an attitiude like that will make a player "float around".

If he plays well here and the Sabres resign him for Leino money, it will be well worth it and still have alot of picks top use or move.
- SABRES 89

Honestly with Vanek gone and Molson coming in I bet this team takes a step forward. Molson isnt as talented as Vanek but you get the elephant off your back of if Vanek will resign and hopefully Molson can change up the room a bit.

12 games into the season, I think they will be able to tell if Moulson fits in or not and he's worth that contract. I have no problem with what you offered as a future contract for him.

I can't see Moulson being a bad addition to this team.

And that should be handled A.S.A.P. so this team can play as a group and focus.

At the very least, RJ gets to come up with a beer goal call for Moulson.

Neither are a bunch of guys already on the roster. Armia should get his 9 games.
- madcow251

The 9 games does not apply for Armia. It only applies to Canadian Junior League kids, not euros. He can play whatever and go to rochester whenever as can Ristolainen.

The Sabres are absolutely getting the proper kind of assets for a team going through the rebuilding process that they are. However as I mentioned last night the draft picks are only as good as the person making the selections.

This trade should not give Regier any more rope, he still needs to be fired, otherwise you are taking the same risks in the draft you have for 17 years, which hasn't been all that great.

I'll be posting a Sabres link in my Penguins blog later today that will be Vanek related.

Unfortunately, Pegula doesn't seem to see it this way.

There's an argument to be made that although most of Buffalo's 1st round picks under Regier don't turn out that well, they draft fairly well in the other rounds. Roy (2nd round), Pommer (3rd round), Gaustad (7th round), Miller (5th round), Foligno (4th round I think).

5 players in 16 years doesn't add to a successful resume when you have drafted over 100 players

Yeah, a lot will have to do with his chemistry with Hodgson. They get it going and I can see them making a push to have Moulson riding shotgun for the remainder of Cody's extension.

I just realized how much more Leino time we have ahead of ourselves and wanted to throw up.
