My biggest concern now is that this trade makes me think Regier will be in charge for some time. You get the feeling Pegula has bought into the rebuild and bottoming out for a couple of seasons to acquire top 3 picks. If so, I think he gives Regier a couple of more years to see how the kids develop. - 100goalseason
Yes Darcy is here to stay. People have to get used to it. |

Just a question but why does some of your fellow Islander posters feel Vanek is a RWer? |

If Moulson plays well I see no reason not resign him, considering all the money they have given Leino who is hurt all the time, I see another hang nail injury soon which should put Leino out for another 2 months. We don't need a team filled with young kids, can't win that way and kids that aren't ready will be ruined......... see Gringo. Moulson will be a fine addition and can't make this team worse. - SABRES 89
Nobody can make this team worse. They're that bad. Personally, I couldn't care less if they re-sign Moulson or not. He's a slow player, supposedly pretty bad in his own zone (which doesn't bother me too much, he's supposed to be a scorer), and has serious question marks as to whether he can produce without one of the league's top centers banking pucks off his shinpads. Also, if you're looking for players to build around, I'm not sure the second best forward from the one organization that might be more dysfunctional than the Buffalo Sabres over the years is the place to start.
The real value of this trade came in the form of the draft picks. Whatever happens with Moulson is playing with house money. |

I'm tired of hearing about all these draft picks that are 3 years away from playing. |

Even with this trade, I still see the Islanders outside the playoffs looking in. They'll get a player that is ready to play in much less than 3 years. |

Nice trade by Darcy, another year with 2 firsts and a couple of seconds is good with me. Havent seen Molson play much but excited to see him tonight (I'll be at the game). |

Still don't need all these draft picks, package them for a player or players we can use now and going forward. Everyone has an opinion of Moulson just like everyone had one of Vanek, they both could turn out to play very well for both clubs. We know Vanek will be better and hopefully Moulson plays well with the second coming as everyone calls him........ Hodgson. |

All our previous 2 years of first rounders are playing for us now and doing pretty well overall, especially for rookies. Thats why I would have no problem using both picks in the draft. Then you can still sign a free agent or two after Lieno gets bought out (hopefully) |

As with all the other players we have aquired . they usually take 15 games to show up on the score sheet |

The Sabres are absolutely getting the proper kind of assets for a team going through the rebuilding process that they are. However as I mentioned last night the draft picks are only as good as the person making the selections.
This trade should not give Regier any more rope, he still needs to be fired, otherwise you are taking the same risks in the draft you have for 17 years, which hasn't been all that great.
I'll be posting a Sabres link in my Penguins blog later today that will be Vanek related. |

The problem isn't Moulson making the team worse. The problem is that the team will make Moulson worse.
On this roster he will wallow in obscurity. |

Vanek was just going through the motions.
Moulson will show more disire than Vanek was showing. He knows this is an audition for a new deal with the Sabres or a possible audition for a team that wants to trade for him come the deadline/sign him as a UFA.

Having played with Matt Moulson, I can tell you that he is a pure goal scorer. Sad to see Vanek go but this is very good for the Sabres.

Moulson always reminded me of Dave Andreychuk. Not in size but will score 30+ goals and all of them within 5 feet of the blue paint.

So basically we traded one guy that gets chopped at like a tree in front of the net, for another less expensive guy that gets chopped at like a tree in front of the net. |

Correct. It was pretty obvious Vanek did not want to be here anymore. |

If he plays well here and the Sabres resign him for Leino money, it will be well worth it and still have alot of picks top use or move. |

All true, it may depend on what kind of money and term Moulson is looking for- ie $6m on a long term deal would be a risky move even with the gobs of cap space we will have here for the foreseeable future. |

I just tweeted an apology to Matt on behalf of all Sabre fans.
He can look on the bright side though... Now he won't have to live near the city and he'll play in a quality building. As we all know, this region is a fantastic place to live. |
