TBH if Dubnyk does not play well this year I dont know that he is an Oiler next year to say the very least... If Bachman continues this impressive play- Dubnyk like Bachman will both be fighting for NHL jobs... as for Labarbara- well he can go LaByeBye
- saskoil21

for sure. at the very least dubs wont be getting any kind of raise or long term extension, and will know he's the backup to start the next year.
depending on how everything works out and who we sign, bachmans play etc etc.. that might not be the worst thing in the world.

lababs is a non issue. he might get one more shot, but he doesn't look like he's a good fit for a team that's desperate for strong goaltending

This misnomer that the government creates jobs is a slippery slope. I really don't believe they should but that is perhaps more of a philosophical point.

To my mind, at best they need to create a better landscape for job creation but poop man I understand it's super tough out there, just the natural economic landscape or lack thereof, is difficult.

I just think it's silly for them to claim they're creating jobs... They're not.

I think they need to do some things to help the general population as well... Rent control for example.

this isn't what Eakins said at all.

he mentioned how dubs didn't pull the feel sorry for himself move. or blame it on anybody else like many would've. he told Eakins to put him back in and that he'd get it together. which he did. Eakins said he loved his attitude since playing badly.

and all this about 'urgency' and 'wanting it' etc are just sports clichés. those comments really have no basis in fact as we don't know what he did behind closed doors. how do you measure urgency? because he didnt go a rant in front of the media?

and I don't know what you mean by 100%. like you don't think he's trying his hardest? what has given you any indication of this? because his playing style isn't floppy and reckless like a tim Thomas' you assume hes not trying??
he's by the book, technical and kinda robotic. that his style. good or bad, I don't think it has anything to do with compete level.

all I care about is that he played well after playing poorly.

he certainly has some deficiencies in his game, but im not ready to give up on him.

Your points are bang on, 100% correct, and of course the coach and the team know the story and I am simply going by body language...which is ridiculous! ...but there is still something that just bothers the he ll out of me with Dubnyk. It sounds dumb, but YES, I would actually like to see him flop around a little bit more. His reaction time seems slower than other 'tenders. He just doesn't seem "cool" calm...he seems almost "stoned calm" or something like that.

You're right though, I have no basis for this...it's just my observation...that's all.

lmao...If a government could CREATE jobs then France would have 0.00% unemployment. Gov't should protect the weak and organize how they allocate OUR money towards OUR services but let the strong do what they do in order to drive economic growth forward. If you remove the profit motive, you're dead. Kids need to learn this more these days (so should the US pres.)

Exactly. Totally. Fukk yes. They don't. But people wanna buy into those talking points. Well, I suppose the gov't could or can create jobs under an ever increasing central command where everything goes through there fiefdom.

Yeah I want rent control too but it distorts the market and I think can have other adverse effects - though I'm not really studied on the ramifications of that topic specifically. I will add though, while it sounds nice you end up with poop tonne of awful properties that are cared less about and you'll have less development in that area of construction. Or so I've read once or twice.

Exactly, the end game is a massive central leviathan - shared misery among the populace. And wow! There's still unemployment.

Create a landscape where development is fervent and fruitful; where economies are organic and voluntary.

It's simply amazing how a much regulation has become the rampant regular compared to even thirty years ago.

EDIT: France. What a mess.

cool. that's all I asked. just some clarification

and as far as the reaction time, u might have a point. he does seem to just get frozen and badly beaten on shots from hashmark distance. but even on the outside but same distance. to be fair those are shots that could beat any goalie alot of the time, but they seem to be in the net before hes even made a stab at them....don't really know for sure

Normally I'd agree with you there, as I get what you're saying... But in St. John's it has gotten out of hand. I guess you have to be there to understand... But yeah, under normal circumstances, I'd agree with you.

(frank) you, Lahey

Anyway, if he disagrees, he's one of the 5-10% that are doing well (or he travels back and forth between NL and Alberfa) and is driving up the costs

It's too bad. If we had had a better start we'd be in a position to trade this year's 1st for some immediate help.

Then again, if we had had a better start, we wouldn't need to trade this year's 1st for some immediate help .

The way I see, there are a couple of holes in our healthy roster going forward:

FORWARDS
Hall-Gagner-XXXXX
XXXXX-Nuge-Ebs
Perron-Gordon-Yakupov
Joensuu-XXXXX-Pitlick

Obviously I've left out a plethora of players including most notably Smyth and Hemmer, but what I mean to say is the Xs represent complimentary players that can pay dividends. On the bright side, a couple of hulking wingers that can get bolstered by good teammates can come pretty cheap and complete an excellent top 9. Imagine Steve downie and Dwight King in those spots for example: those kind of guys. Overall though, forwards are okay.

D and Goaltending, we're not looking for complimentary players but rather top pairing and starting quality.
