If it was anyone other than Voracek (Simmonds, Hartnell) you would probably have a deal.

The Flyers unfortunately are really weak in terms of actual skill up front. The big 3 are Giroux, Voracek and Read which isn't a really impressive list as it is.

I mean, that's definitely not an unimpressive list. Giroux is world class and Voracek is only a few tiers under that. Read, I believe, is underrated skill-wise. He's been dynamite the past few games and in preseason. I do agree we need one more skill guy and one less grit guy, though.

Given what Reese has had to work with, he's done an incredible job. He got two journeymen vets to play their best NHL level hockey. He got Emery to return to being a good NHL goalie after his KHL stint. Bobrovsky came over from Russia and had never played on a North American sized rink and he played well for the Flyers.

In Mason, Reese has been given a talented young goalie that got into some bad habits and got him straightened out. Mason's numbers since coming under Reese's tutelage are elite level numbers.

14 games, 6-7-0 record, 2.04 GAA and a .940 save %. Sure a lot of that is on Mason being willing to work harder and and communicate better, but Reese has worked long and hard with him.

Even if they added another skill guy, the same thing needs to happen. The current skill guys need to step up and play like skilled players.
