Oh, and I'm fairly convinced at this point that, unless Couturier and BSchenn develop into these beastly offensive players, this team does not have enough forward talent to compete.

So much female doging and moaning about the defense, yet we have a guy (Raffl) who was playing in Sweden's 2nd best professional league on their top line.

- johndewar

There is a reason for that... I thought he was awful last night...

Giroux and Voracek the Flyers two leading scorers from last year haven't scored yet. That is a huge concern. If they continue playing this way, there isn't enough secondary scoring to pick up the slack.

Raffl is just a place holder for Hartnell. But with the way he's played he's not a given either.

I wanna see Couts with VL and Read...

Id go with these lines...

Voracek-G-Hartnell (when healthy)
VL-Couts-Read
McGinn-Schenner-Simmonds
Hall-Talbot-Rinaldo

I also thought Coburn had his best game in probably a year and half. He looked good at both ends.

- jak521

Yeah , he had two goals, one at each end ...the guy is a magnet around our own net...I think some teams shoot at him when they see he is near the net...

At this point pick the names out of a hat. Nothing else is working. Simmonds looks lost.

Fluky goal. In all honesty, I may have been the biggest Coburn detractor in these parts over the past season and a half. But I also have to give props when I think a player plays well...

If Hartnell doesn't come back and start scoring, you almost have to make a move.

It's one thing to be patient and develop Schenn and Couturier -- and, again, I'm fine with that decision. We paid a premium to get those players into our system. The Flyers should keep them until they either break out or bust.

But we can't just not score goals, keep scoring two goals or fewer per game. Maybe it's not fair to single guys out, but life's not fair. This is a results-oriented business, and you can't just not score goals and think that everything's going to be OK and the next game will be better.

Hartnell, Voracek, Simmonds, Giroux...they've got to be better than this. This is ridiculous.

Only make a move if it's going to help the future. No short term fixes. Don't throw a pick away to add a veteran scorer on the last year of a deal. This team isn't close, so rentals make absolutely zero sense.

And I get it that Raffl is just filling in, but I think it speaks loudly for the talent level in this organization that he was the best guy we had on hand to fill that role.

a win is a win......................if not for Mason, they are still winless, imagine last night with Lundqvist, Callahan & Nash in the Ranger lineup.

It's time for Hextall to take over & begin the retooling, this team is terrible

again, living in the past, Giroux given the "C" is killing his game, (oh, our new Clarke?)
he was fine until they started that "our new Clarkie" philosophy again.
Richards didn't want it & he's gone

That 5 minute major power play was pretty inept as well. The only good thing last night (other than the win) was that Toronto overturned that goal against the Flyers.

I can't remember the last time we scored even one with the major.

And believe me, I'm not advocating dealing either Couturier or BSchenn.

My point is that, they can't be relied upon to provide offense at this stage of their careers on a consistent basis. They need time to grow into their roles.

You know what? I am going to single out Jakub Voracek. That guy hasn't looked like he's going to score a goal in a single game this season. Between his cross-ice passes on odd-man rushes, unwillingness to drive to the net with the puck and unwillingness to be a net presence in the offensive zone, then what the hell value is he bringing to this team right now?

He's doing as little as Andrej Meszaros was when I was begging for him to be benched. Voracek's done damn near NOTHING this season.

I know they won't do it, but to me, you can't get worse if you scratch him -- they're already not scoring. If I was Craig Berube, I'd at least not score with guys who are going to the freaking net and not passing up shots on odd-man rushes!

He's at his career average in shots per game.

Although, he was averaging over 3 shots per game during his 93-point 2011-12 season, and that number has been on the decline since.

Jarome Iginla now owns two streaks of starting seasons with an 8-game goalless streak (or more). And he turned out okay.

He's a playmaker. And that was also Hartnell's peak year of 37 goals, including a whopping 16 on the PP. That likely won't happen again.

That's well and good, but sometimes the best play a play maker can make is to do it themselves.
