But it isn't. We've seen time and time again that it isn't. The fact that these guys play so damn hard those first 9 games blurs everything.

Yeah like I mean, to an extent...but thats the difference between your fan and your coaches who are at practices, in the weight room etc etc...You have guys who can work their butts off, but it doesnt mask their inability to outmuscle regulars, put up points, adapt to systems, or have the physical conditioning needed to last.

Clearly Monahan has demonstrated enough of all those factors to convince the coaching staff that he should stay.

Well they aren't going to look at his offensive zone starts vs. defensive zone starts then all of a sudden say "send him down"!!!

They know what they are doing!

lol no, most players/coaches barely pay attention to this stuff because they create the stats...if you follow. If Im the coach and I start Bob in the offense 60% of the time its something that obviously Im paying attention to or else it wouldnt be happening. Its not by coincidence that the coaches notice things and start players in different situations depending on their play...but a lot of the time its tough for those analyzing from a 3rd person perspective to pick up on this unless they view the stats. And again, while they paint a certain picture of said player, they are not to be used as a primary source of assessment.

According to Millions, Baertschi is clearly upset but handing it like a pro.

What's with so much love for Money but nothing for Baert from this coach/management. I thoughtBaertschi has looked pretty good; hitting bodies, preventing goals etc. They may wanf to be careful with Sven he may start not trusting Flames brass or worse, he starts resenting Moneyhands.

Sven could also be a little sore/stiff from the road game and would rather release it as such rather than saying hes hurt. Just a thought.

Sure a possibility. But Millions didn't paint the picture that way. At least I didn't take it that way.

could be because the play dies when the puck gets to him, poor shot selection, weak on the puck and cough ups

Just don't trade this guy like you guys moved St. Louis and Savard!

Can't wait till he finishes up at the NCAA level!

St. Louis was passed over in the expansion draft by two teams and was a ufa with little interest. The first team to have his rights were the sens

not sure why Calgary always gets beat up about him when any team in the NHL could have had him for nothing. Guy totally did a 180 with his career in Tampa

It's ironic that Hartley would say exactly what Burke said at the beginning of the season. "He needs to play in all 3 zones" maybe Burke has his hand in on things more than we know. I would like to see Sven come back with more fire on the ice.

Apparently it's a coaching decision based on the way he's been playing. They feel he needs to be better in all three zones.

Sadly, i have noticed these things too.

Edit: But i am ok with this from Sven since he is still a rookie. But Glencross has been doing the same poop . . .

Sven has been handling most of the tough assignments for Monahan. In the D zone he has to "act" as the center while Monahan plays wing. The two have communicated pretty well together and I don't get how Monahan is getting praise without Sven being part of it? Seems strange and I don't blame him for being upset. Flames staff better tread carefully or they'll lose him.

Crazy. Monahan seems to be getting a pass, yet Beart doesn't? Weird?

I thought Hudler was doing most of the D-zone work for Monahan.

To be honest I have to disagree with you completely. While sometimes you have to actually try and find Monahan on the ice, when you do he is almost always in good position covering his man. If he wasn't he'd be on the bench. Baertschi, I feel, is being used as the scapegoat a little but Monahan is a very smart player and shouldn't be discredited. If you watch the GA when he is on the ice, most of the time he is covering his man and the goal happens as a result of something else. You don't get 21 minutes against a stanley cup winning team if the coach doesn't have faith in you in all areas of the ice. Besides, Who would you rather have play defence for Calgary? Butler or Monahan? lol I'm pretty sure Monahan would do a better job at this point

I think I would be a better choice on D than Butler at this point!
