I actually would be very surprised if they don't steamroll the Rags tonight. Rags can't score as it is, now they don't have Nash or Callahan. Thrown in no CSP, and this should be a fairly easy win. Should be a good confidence boost.

yeah, this could happen. i guess i won't be surprised by whatever happens.

Not for anything, but everything you just said about Luke Schenn also applies to JvR, but on the offensive side of things.

Sometimes, he's just a beast. Sometimes, he lollygags on the perimeter like a floater.

- johndewar

I didn't see much of JVR as a Flyer to really draw a comparison, but he's been an effective player on the penalty kill for the Leafs this season. His game has matured nicely since he first arrived in Toronto and he's been using his size in front of the net more. I saw an earlier comment about him fizzling and maybe that will happen, but I like what I've seen so far.

Hope Luke gets back on his A game for you guys. He's a quality guy that can be a rock on D when things are going well.

Man, I'd love to have one of their Jerseys. I had a good, cheap night out at those games.

Can't argue with $8 front-row seats. Although (the old) MLRH was better.

i have absolutely no knowledge of his ability. he'll have the game of his life and win. i've seen it too many times before.
- hammarby31

in 111 career AHL games, a 2.69 GAA and a .913 save percentage. Decent AHL numbers. Of course this is the NHL and the Flyers so a shutout likely

Seriously tho, I am expecting a win tonight. I am going to go with 4-1. Just a feeling. Could also be heartburn I am feeling.

It's not just Luke, it's that none of the Flyers D have been anything to write home about. Granted, he's been VERY bad. I'd like him to be a guy you can put out there 18 minutes a night and not worry about. He'll never have the offensive tools of a guy like Timonen, but you hope he can just quietly be a positive player.

The Rangers arent playing well lately. They're all kinds of banged up. They have an AHL goalie in net. In theory, this would be a great "get well" game for the Flyers. However... the last time I checked, games are still played on the ice and not on paper.

The Flyers have also had the better part of a week to think about their crappy start and what they're going to do about it. If nothing else, the one thing I really need to see is 60 minutes of consistent effort, including a strong 3rd period.

Honestly, every team can point out players they wish they had drafted and the flip side, how they did better with the player they did pick than guys taken before them. time will tell on Maatta and Laughton.

the one that makes me cringe the most was in 2007. Trading up to #41(giving up a 2008 2nd Rounder and Nashville's 2007 3rd Rounder) to draft Kevin Marshall and seeing how well Subban is playing who obviously went 43rd.

Still not as bad as the #27 pick (Carlson) for Eminger.

oh i understand but at the time there were only a handful of players that were slated to be NHL ready at the time of the draft and Zadorov was 1 of them personally on a team with terrible defense the season before (although alot due to injury) it would make more sense to me to draft a player that could play right away. also Zadorov would have had AHl eligibility so even if he didnt make the team out of camp he could have been used as a call up in case of injury...
Morin was returned to his junior team... the only way we can call him up is as a emergency call up .... there was just more of an upside to Zadorov than Morin...

- flyer186

I wouldn't read too much into Zadorov (nor even Ristolainen) being in the NHL right away... Buffalo has a history of rushing #1-picks and stunting them and/or picking complete duds to begin with.

They're about to waste a 2nd year off of Grigorenko's ELC, rotating him between the 4th-line and the pressbox. Ristolainen's already been sent to the Amerks. If Zadorov stays up, I wouldn't expect him to get too much ice time, much less keep scoring goals.

He'll be scratched here just like Toronto.

BREAKING!!!! Lupul got hit in the foot with a puck in practice and is getting x-rays.

*is this really news? isn't he always getting x-rays?*

- jmatchett383

yeah that is worse. I mean, drafting one player over another usually plays out over time and you can never tell. I don't think anyone liked moving the 27th pick for Eminger regardless of who was even taken let alone factoring in who WAS taken

Luke Schenn seems like he's trying to find his way out of a dog house and I'm not sure how he got there, to be honest.

You can't tell me he's been any worse than any other player so far.

- johndewar

i agree

After Lavy was fired a comment was made by one of the hockey analysts in the Canadian media that the Flyers as a team isn't playing sound deffensive hockey and that there was a visible disconnect between forwards and the D. Not sure if Flyer fans would agree with that assessment or not.

Two defensemen and a goalie that are "playing alone" against 5 guys are going get eaten up no matter who they are.

So often a coach being fired gives a team at least a short boost of success, but no such luck for the Flyers this time. Maybe a visit from the Rangers will help. Do you guys play the Sabres any time soon? That could help build some confidence too.

He's big, long, physical and can skate. Even if he develops just average puck skills, he can be a top 4 defenseman IMO.
- PhillySportsGuy

They said the same for Duncan Seimens, Colton Teubert, Ty Wishart, Boris Valabik, Mike Komisarek, Rosti Klesla, Branislav Mezei, Aki Berg, and hundreds of guys before them.

Morin's ceiling could be Braydon Corburn for all we know... much less his floor.

The lack of total team d and disconnect between the forwards and D has been a problem since the NJD series 2 years ago.[/img]
