He isn't the only one who thinks Zadarov will be a much better player then Morin. That's not to say Morin can't develop into the better player but if I where to bet I would put my money on Zadarov. I know it doesn't mean much coming from a owner but the Knights owner said of all the players to ever play for the Knights ( which includes a pretty impressive list ) Zadarov has the highest potential of all of them. Potential doesn't also translate into results though so it won't be years till anyone finds out who got the better D man.

I actually this Pulock will be the best defenseman after Jones from this year's draft. But I'm liking Morin more and more, and just hope they are patient with him.

Even if Morin becomes a flat out stud defenseman, you will never like the pick, because he's not ready to play right away?

Not so sure it is simply a lack of patience with Morin, Ghost, Hagg, et al, or that the Flyers ineptitude at drafting/developing high caliber blue liners has been an epic failure for decades.

The Flyers expected to compete for a playoff spot, and very well still may. Buffalo was expected to be one of the bottom feeders and have 4 players 19 or under in their lineup. Sounds to be that they are willing to let their kids learn on the job. Regardless, you don't draft for the moment, you draft the player who you think will turn out the best and the Flyers had Morin ranked higher. time will tell. they already have 8 NHL dmen on the roster and have 3-4 guys in the minors they can call up if necessary. there is absolutely no reason to rush him.

no i just see a bigger upside to zadorov than morin could morin end up being a good pick yes he could do i think that zadorov will end up being a better pick...yes i do i am not a scout never professed to be but in reading a hole bunch of stuff on the players in last years draft (which included tsn, espn, and various hockey magazines) it seemed that zadorov had a greater potential than morin... dont get me wrong i hope morin turns out to be a monster....just not a fan of him being picked were he was

I'm a big Luke Schenn fan, but he's been pretty bad so far this Season. I don't know why, or what the issue is. Maybe he's not in good shape. He was horrendous on the Crosby goal in the Pens game. In which Coburn unfairly took most of the criticism on that play. But Giroux was just as bad, and Schenn was the biggest culprit on that play.
- MJL

I can tell you when I get my pocket picked like that from behind, my coach will flat out tell me I was soft on the puck. that said, not to be ready on a turnover like that means the other players (Schenn/G) were not mentally in the game for that shift.

Pulock seems to be an offensive beast but how is his defensive play ? I think a lot of great players will emerge from this draft even the guys taken in the late 20's

You know you are getting old when you are watching this and thinking: "What an idiot, imagine the cost in manpower and danger to rescuers if this guy crashes down in to a gully and gets horribly injured and they have to airlift him to some hospital and have him sponge off our tax dollars for the rest of his life because he is a mentally handicapped quadriplegic....or kills himself."

Still pretty amazing and crazy.

Or, management of different teams will deal with player development differently. Flyers may very well have sent Zadorov back to wherever even if they had drafted him. Maybe Morin would have 3 goals if he was in the NHL now. You have no idea what would happen, or who will turn out to be better etc.

I may be guessing at this, but if Morin hits his full potential (notice the word 'if'), he'll top out higher than most of the defensemen taken in that draft. More time will tell, not 3 months after the draft

totally agree.. I was very sour on it originally, but the more I learned about the kid --also should note that I was mainly sour because I didnt know too much about him-- the more excited I got about the pick. He has a ton of potential both on offense and defense.. POTENTIAL

He will no doubt have dry spots. all players do, but overall I think he will end up with 30 goals if he stays healthy

maybe it was because of button's predictions that the flyers were hot on him and the subsequent reactions on this board

Has a big body, but not Shea Weber big. But from what I've heard, he doesn't shy away from physical play, and likes to use his size. Very solid in his own end. I think he's a "safer" pick than Morin (easily projected top-3 with PP opportunities), where as Morin's more of a star or bust where he'll either be a #1 player or a middling #5/6 player.

Of course, these are all projections and there are hundreds of factors that can change things. Just how it seems to me.

All these Shanahan suspensions are really deterring players from targeting the head.

I see Morin's floor as being someone like Coburn, but more physical. What will separate Morin is if he can develop an offensive game.

I agree. JVR will always leave you wanting more though.

I was disappointed with the trade at first. I was hoping they would get a more offensive defenseman. I feel Schenn played as well as JVR last year, but top 4 defensive defenseman are easier to find than top 4 offensive defenseman.

It's a process.

It would be more effective if the infraction was recognized and dealt with appropriately at that moment.

Losing a player for a period of time hurts if he's an important player, not so much if he's a pug. If the call is made when it should be and not sometime after the game, the ensuing penalty would probably be a more effective deterrent against such brain-dead moves.

Make the correct call in real time and penalize the team appropriately.

The Flyers coming off a long layoff going up against a team with several key players missing a backup making his first start of the year? Sounds like a 3-1 loss to me.
