100% disagree.

Simmonds and L Schenn are both struggling big time, but they were among our better players last year.

- FlyerGuy

So many of our players thus far have struggled beyond belief. Simmonds is one of them.. I think soon he will start doing what he has over the first 1.5 years here... he was amazing two years ago..

clearly he's the problem. top line hasn't scored a goal since the stone age, but if we could just get rid of Simmonds and his favorable contract we'd be in high cotton baby. very astute observation.
- BringBack25

There always has to be a scapegoat. Hartnell is injured so that familiar refrain can't be used. Simmonds is a good replacement.

He's one player who really has to live by the motto "less is more."

The more time he has the puck on his stick, the worse the outcome. And I don't say that in the regard that he should be traded. It's that he just kills us when he starts trying to make plays.

If he just flipped pucks out of the zone on defense and dumped-and-chased on offense, he'd be so much more effective than when he just turns the puck over trying to pass or stickhandle.

- feelingkettle

why does he even stick his leg out on that a weak shot on a bad angle you let your goalie take that ....how many fluke goals are scored by doing the same stupid thing not just the flyers but other teams you see it all the time d-man trys to defelct a easy shot goes in the net

Dump and then bust his ass to get to the net. The only time you want the puck on his stick is around the net. There he's normally golden.

Well he's a 3rd line scoring player on a team that likes to deploy a shutdown 3rd line. Hes getting paid 2nd line money. So there's that

When the puck is on his stick everyone might as well skating back because he is Turing it over. Just aweful. Take him off the first unit pp too.

Agreed -- I don't want to kill the guy. But someone has to really help him understand that there's games to be won and money to be made in this league by some guys by just keeping things simple.

I don't think he stuck his leg out. Coburn didn't do anything wrong. It's just a bad bounce.

Senseless because who is playing well on the first PP unit. If you take him off might well take everyone off.

Here's the difference. Is Simmonds 1-7 or is the team 1-7? The answer tells you why scapegoating is ridiculous.

No, it's senseless to single out one guy when the entire team is struggling on the PP.

I agree, Simmonds need to sort of play to his strengths, and keep it simple. Could part of the issue be that we really don't have a line (aside from the 4th) that plays that dump and chase game consistently?

Some teams have one of their top three lines that is sort of a defense-first checking line and plays more of that dump and chase, hard forecheck and cycle game on offense. But our top three lines all seem want to be puck possession lines, and that's never going to be Simmonds strength.
