Star Wars went free to play. It's a blast. Takes the whole mass effect choose your own destiny in it's stride. Playing for free you'll get smoe limitations but you can figure out what you want to buy...

Speaking of games, anybody played LA Noire before? I just finished Red Dead and am looking for another story-driven game to play. Btw, I know I'm hopelessly behind the times.

If you have yet to play it, I'd say the God of War series.

If you show up being able to do 20 pushups, 20 situps and 30 deep knee bends, you'll be fine for the 1962 Leafs training camp.

Good start!

You need to get some time in at Irish Kevin's.

Also heck out the Green Parrot....they usually have pretty good live music and it's off of Duval Street.

Is it a button-masher? I'm not really into frenetic gameplay... I'll admit I bought my PS3 last year to play Heavy Rain, lol.

It is a bit of a button masher, but there's also a ton of puzzles. Also, if you're into games with fantastic graphics and backgrounds, I'd play it. The visual details (along with the story lines) got the first 2 Game of The Year awards, and the 3rd one' s just as good.

In todays NHL you HAVE to have good foot speed to be a dominant d-man in the NHL. It is practically a requirement if you wish to be in the upper echelon. He really lacks that type of speed. It is not as bad as I was lead to believe by the Leafs fans.. but it isnt next level stuff. Also, he really doesnt have any offensive traits. So what we have right now is a d-man that brings a physical presence, but lacks speed, offensive instincts and presence, and isnt really all that great in his own end.

- jak521

I don't disagree with anything you wrote above.

And in defence of Leafs fans, those with opinions worth listening to weren't saying that he was the slowest player in the league.

But the game has changed, and he simply doesn't have the footspeed to be a top pairing guy. Until Luke proves me wrong, I'm correct in this assessment (MJL can protest all he wants).

Still too early to give up on him, though. I confess I haven't watched him play this year (other than against the Leafs) but I have been following his TOI (the single most important stat for defencemen, imho) and it looks like exactly what we saw in Toronto. Dwindling confidence by coach which leads to dwindling confidence by player - it's a spiral down the toilet.

We gave up a top line winger to get him. That right there increases expectations. I know I need to be patient, but I really dont think he will top out where some believe he will top out. I am pulling for him though... for the sake of the Flyers, and for the sake of my sanity.

- jak521

I'm going to stick up for your GM here - you didn't give up a top line winger. You gave up a guy who was in the exact same boat as Schenn - high draft pick, early expectations (which were set too high) who had lost confidence and become a fan whipping boy.

It was a good trade for both players and for both teams. It's just worked out better for the Leafs (at the moment).

If you knew anything, you'd know that he faked a broken leg to avoid getting traded. Total wuss, worthless.

I really enjoyed Red Dead.. might wanna try Max Payne.. pretty fun game IMO.. also kinda story driven, but not as open ended as Red Dead.

I prefer Battle Field and the sports games myself.

The problem with our GM is that he lacks patience. We did give up JVR as a top line forward. If you go back and look at his last 82 games as a Flyer (including playoff games) you will see that he had something like 33 goals and 28 assists. That is top line material, especially when you are putting them numbers at as a 22/23 y/o playing mostly on 2nd and 3rd lines. I predicted a big year for him two seasons ago... but he got bit by the injury bug and was a bit stale. He is a very good player. I wont be surprised one bit when he scores 40 in this league.

With Schenn, the dynamic is lost. He was never expected to put up points.. ever.. but thats not his problem. His problem is that he really isnt all that good a defender, and he really truly does lack the top pairing foot speed to keep up with quick players. Even worse, he tends to get caught on his heels which is really scary. That to me means he lacks mental quickness. If guys are beating him to the punch because he isnt reacting fast enough (or even worse... IS forced TO react) that is a problem.

I hope I am wrong. I hope JvR ends up have a great career as a 3rd line winger putting up 15 goals a year and 20 assists.. and Schenner ends up Adam Foote 2.0, but unfortunately I think theres a better chance I end up the next GM of the Flyers.

And I could say that until you prove me wrong, I'm correct in my assessment. waste of time. Luke Schenn is never going to be a plus skater. But his skating is not going to stop him from becoming a top pairing guy. He certainly doesn't have the footspeed to catch up on a play if he get's himself out of position. That's the key to Luke Schenn's game. That's what's going to decide what level he gets to as an NHL defenseman. His positioning, and reading and anticipation of plays. He has played stretches of games for the Flyers where he was an absolute monstor defensively. His footspeed didn't hold him back then.

I agree on JVR. Wanted him to stick around another year or two before they moved on. I think he's going to be a really good player. Hopefully Schenn makes it hard for us to remember JVR,

a couple years back when fox Pittsburgh used to carry the pens games.... i wanted to reach thru the tv and strangle that guy every time crosby touched the puck in his opinion the flyers should have gotten a penalty and even worse if crosby got a penalty the refs were always against the pens ... it just sucked the guy was terrible to listen to

Dude, I am not going to lie, your post make me want to kick you in the nuts. you offer nothing but female doging and moaning. I get that the flyers are bad right now and they are in the middle of a rebuild whether the Flyers will admit it or not but for the love of god you are becoming extremely annoying.

He's currently 6th amongst Flyers defencemen in TOI.

Right now, I'm winning this.
