You are correct. An average male matures at 27. I said average. It takes that long for an average male to add the proper amount of muscle to his frame. Wifes Gymnastics stats, these apply to all sports as well. But the youth have flexibility, that is supposed to counter your argument. - bixll
sure.. in normal circumstances i would agree with you
however.. in the NHL these guys arent in "normal" shape.. they are highly tuned athletes and are far more powerful then the average adult.
its more than enough to make the flexibility aspect a non issue.
and flexibility isnt going to help much when a 230lb man crushes you into the boards at 25kph |

It certainly will. However, your flexibility does nto make sure that your knee is out of the way. |

I think you're both right...agility helps some younger guys roll off hits...but a mid ice collision or a shoulder to chest/shoulder check into the boards is where you could use that extra weight/muscle what have you. |

then why all the injuries that consistently happen to young players?
i think when the guys in their prime are as in shape as they are.. their own flexibility is nearly that of a 20 year old.. which takes away the younger players advantage.
it just seems to me that young players get hurt.. and frequentley |

Flexibility is one of the most overlooked portion of an athletes training. And it is not about how much you can lift, it is about how many times you can lift it. |

Maybe you are just focused on that young player, because they all get hurt. |

nah, the frequencey young players get hurt at anymore is far worse than guys in their mid twenties.. if you look at it percentage based.
sure.. we hear about guys in their prime getting hurt just as much.. but well.. they also outnumber young guys 5 or 6x over |

Let's hope John Scott doesn't play any more games in the NHL. Shouldn't have been there in the first place. |

Could be because they have no regard for upkeep on their bodies (compared to older people), and they generally feel untouchable. |

i look at it like this
when i was 20.. i was 200lbs
now i am 36 and i am 210-215 ish
not a big difference but yet.. i am a hell of a lot more durable now then i was at 20
you are still maturing at 19-20 years old.. and when a 30 year old 225lbs man hits you.. its the kid that gets hurt.. and we've seen that repeatedly over the years.
the body doesnt get tough til 23-24 years of age... plain and simple. - Dozzer
by the time you're 50 you'll be around the 250-265 area.

He controls the game better than anyone else, and is almost impossible to take the puck off. Fun to watch. |

Can't believe I agree with Milbury for once. But he spoke the truth. Scott is a scum and the sabres are an embarrassment to the NHL. |
