The idea that a team PDO should always hover around 1000 seems so silly to me. Whatever, I'll let the stats guys have their fun. |

I'm not a Phaneuf fan, but he had a good game last night for sure - even if he doesn't score |

was just looking at this site posted earlier:
http://stats.hockeyanalysis.com/
find if funny how there are no columns representing actual wins. nothing on that represents a teams actual results in the only column that counts. |

Gardiners trade value is huge right now. I think it was said it would take an elite forward or another person quoted it as a "(poopload)". While Bozak isn't on the trade radar-could only imagine why. I would say his value is somewhere around a turd. |

On paper Colorado has the worst D in the league. No clue how they are not giving up 3+ goals a game. - daeth
because it's a team game.... corsi is okay if you want to analyze individuals, but even then it is wrong 50% of the time... as proven by the E Kane vs Crosby ratings.

Guys, Corsi is just a proxy for puck possession. That's it. In fact, it correlates almost perfectly with offensive zone attack time.
............
The Leafs are winning because of great goaltending (and PK) and high goal scoring/shooting percentage (they have exceptionally skilled forwards and tend to score off the rush or on the PP -- i.e., in high shooting percentage situations). But their lack of puck possession is pretty glaring. No one in their right mind thinks you can win games getting 2 shots on goal a period. Even Carlyle is harping on the Leafs' possession problems.
...........
I'll end this simply by saying this: if you're gonna try to rail against the stats, try to at least understand them. All Corsi does is describe what we are all seeing with our eyes -- the Leafs are getting outshot and outpossessed on a nightly basis. That typically doesn't bode well. Thankfully the Leafs have great goaltending and exceptional forwards. JVR is a beast. That is all.
Cheers - panek
Carlyle, unlike a lot of coaches plays a system that emphasizes dropping back, cramming the front of the net in the defensive zone, and blocking shots. The trade off is they give up the perimeter and point shots and allow teams to cycle on the outside. That doesn't explain everything but it says to me you take the stats with a grain of salt. Great goaltending statistics has to be related to that system. Unless of course we're ready to put Bernier and Reimer into the Olympic discussion.
On offense they generate high percentage chances a lot. They really don't have players that excel in a cycle game ...especially without Clarkson and Kulemin. Again it's a trade off.

Just because HH annoys people doesn't mean Bozak is that bad.
I like our 4 centers - 3rd period I believe I saw Bolland/McClement/Orr play quite a bit and they looked good
just rotate the centres on how they are playing, ususally RC seems to have at least 2 on the ice at all times in the 3rd period. |

Roy has the WHOLE team playing great. I wouldn't be surprised if they keep rolling and make the playoffs EASILY |

in regards to the leafs team sh% ...its just something that a team has not done before (at least from what I am reading). Lead the league in shooting % 2 seasons in a row. add in the shorter season last year (not a large enough sample size) ..it gets muddier.
What I do know... the past 58 games the leafs have won more than they lost. they are not dominating teams ( basing that on watching at least 30+ of the games myself), sometimes are dominated themselves but win.
I dont get it, it doesnt sound like a recipe for prolonged success to me, but its working..so far. So I will take it. |

Would like to see him on 2nd/3rd line. I think Bolland and Kadri should take 1/2. Just my opinion. Like him on the team. Just not on line 1. |
