Player with a history makes contact with another players head. Seems like it fits Shanny's suspendable standards.
Not saying I agree with it, but it fits with the way he's handing suspensions out right now. |

If Grabner can get 2 games for that hit on Gerbe who is a dwarf I guess anything is possible? Nielsen is far from a dirty player. One of the least penalised players on the team next to Moulson. He got his shoulder up but there was no intent on that one. With that said he's an Islander and Shanahan seems to be picking up where Campbell left off with his hate for the Islanders so nothing would surprise me. |

I don't think it deserves a suspension, but I also don't think Edler's hit on Hertl was any worse and that got 3 games... |

Right now I think Torts is just playing the hand he has been dealt. I don't have any confidence in Sestito or Wiese (or Alberts as a LW) so for now I'm glad Torts is only giving these guys only a couple of minutes a game. Until Gillis is able to acquire some players to take some ice time away from the top 9, it is going to be like this for a while. The Sedin's don't worry me as much. Under AV they had very low minutes for top line players. I think they will be able to handle some more. Kesler with his style of play and injury history worry me a little bit. - fiveandagame
I don't have confidence in Gillis' ability to make a trade for players that are needed. To actually fill the holes we have.
What I don't understand with the benching/scratch of Booth is just the timing and no plan B. Why was Alberts dressed? Weber, who has not been great at forward, has to be a better option than Alberts. And really, neither of those two should have been dressed. The farm is in NY, couldn't they have called up someone from the Comets? When was it decided to scratch Booth?
One of the things I don't like about Torts is when he says "I feel...." to explain decisions and such. Give the guy a hug. Maybe he doesn't want to use the word gut or instinct, but using feelings in an explanation sounds contrary to logic and strategy, may as well have a magic 8 ball.
What I am trying to say is if he decided after Sunday's game that he was going to sit Booth, he should have called someone up to fill the hole. If he waited until Tuesday morning to make the decision, what took him so long, what changed?
If Torts is not sure who he wants to keep, if he is identifying and establishing the type of player he wants on his team, looking at any talent available on the farm should be a priority before making a trade to bring someone in. He barely saw what was in the cupboard in the preseason. Someone from the Comets had to be a better option on the fourth line than Alberts playing out of position. |

Yeah, well I can see it working for awhile and against bottom dwelling teams, but playing the Sharks, Blues, Kings, we are gonna need 4 lines rolling.
I hope Burrows is back soon, and can regain some scoring touch.
And also hope Hanson isn't out for too long.
Anyone know what wrong with him? |

I can agree with most of this. I think Booth needed a major kick in the a$$ and hopefully the scratch will provide that. Tort's approach to that was a little off, but they were still able to win the game. If the Canucks would have got torched it would have looked really bad. Thankfully they won the game and Torts doesn't have egg on his face.
I also have little to no faith in Gillis bringing in another top 6 forward anytime soon.

Since the start of the season there has been exactly one transaction:
San Jose Mike Brown Acquired from Edmonton
There are plenty of teams in worse shape than Vancouver right now and none of their GM's have been able to acquire a top 6 forward, or top 4 defence man or starting goal tender etc. etc. I don't think Gillis' competence has anything to do with it. |

That was the way that I voted in the poll too!
It just doesn't make sense to me that the farm team is in NY and it should have been an easy call up. If this was a home stand, well then it seems understandable that there may have not been enough time to bring someone across the continent... Looking for some drama between Torts and Booth I guess, and if there was some it was either Monday or Tuesday morning, but I think the players may have had Monday off... So maybe Booth had a run in with Torts on game day?
I'd just like to know the decision making process and timeline involved, sometimes it seems like a perfect orchestration and sometimes it is by the seat of their pants decision making and execution.
The 2pts is the main thing but still Torts wasn't happy with the performance. |

I would guess it's salary cap related. Calling up a player means more $ against the cap, using a guy who's sitting in the press box anyway means no change. If Hansen goes on the IR I'm sure you would see someone called up before they leave the East coast.
EDIT - plus they sent Dalpe down on a conditioning stint, I think he gets 2 games or something before he comes back up. |

I agree. Wouldn't have suspended either of them. Of course I also thought Grabner's hit was worse than both and it got 2 games. Shanny might make nice videos, but he's still using Colin Campbell's spinning wheel of suspensions. |

Kesler took a solid head shot and it's his fault for not getting up fast enough. Or is it because once he got up and was ok he was... ok? He also gets slammed for the "head snap" when he gets high sticked in the face. Gimme a break.
Slam him for diving when he actually dives or when he snaps his head back without actually taking a stick to the face, but don't slam him for diving when he actually takes a solid, illegal hit to the head. THAT is bush league. |

You are prolly right about the cap, not wanting to expose any players to waivers either... I want to see Booth do well, but if he isn't doing well, send him down to the A. If he doesn't get something going, he will be the next buyout. The only harm with him getting sent down is the waiver wire, and if nobody picks him up, does he become disgruntled? And really, if he does get his back up, maybe that is a good thing cause other approaches haven't worked.
Deep breath, the season is just beginning. Serenity now. Almost forgot we won yesterday. |

Booth makes 4.25, Burrows makes 4.5. At this point, that's nearly 9million wasted. Thank god we got Santorelli and Stanton playing for 550k and producing.
Hopefully Jensen gets another look soon, he could easily replace Booth. |

I wouldn't call anything an embellishment when a person is hit that hard in the head.
Could he have got up sooner? Probably.
But why should he? He's just been hit in the head during a rush up ice and is about to go on a PP—take your time and collect yourself. - Fosco
sure, if Nielson had actually made contact with the head. You're missing that important step, since he did not.
