Even if this is all absolutely true, none of it seems problematic. - BulliesPhan87

Well, putting aside the fact that our amateur author implied he psychically stole their feelings on the matter, everybody has opinions about their boss. It's not like they went to the media to blast management. |

I don't see how a person's salary correlates with what they get to do on their day off. Should a heart surgeon have his nose in his medical books on his time off? - PLindbergh31
If a heart surgeon just had 7 die on the table and 1 he barely managed to not kill, then yeah id kinda hope he'd be working on getting better. Is that a serious question?
EDIT: A salary clearly correlates how someone should be spending their spare time if theyre not doing their job to the level which was agreed upon when contract was signed.. |

I disagree. Just because someone makes a ton of money doesn't mean they don't get to have a life. |

I don't care about basketball. having said that, in a few words or less, what is going on with the 76ers pick? Was he this year's pick and he's injured? |

Totally unreasonable expectation. As you said, they're people, not robots.
And killing 7 people on the operating table would be more comparable to these players somehow assuring NHL hockey would literally never be played in Philadelphia again. |

He had ACL surgery in March. Original timeline was 6-8 months which would bring him back midseason. By all accounts he was ahead of schedule over the summer.
The Sixers are trying to do everything they can to tank this season short of turning around and shooting at their own basket. A team with a plan, I commend them. |

I guess it's not black and white to me.
Sure my heart surgeon and a hockey player can have a life as long as it doesn't impact their job performance. Once it does there should be repercussions. It's an expectation which correlates with salary.
It doesn't bug me at all that during a long break between games they got ripped, watched a football game and acted like immature sleeze bags.
It's doing it the night before a game and then playing like orange cones I'd get upset about. Just like a heart surgeon performing surgery hung over and killing someone would have an issue. If they play amazingly well then it's a non-issue. But if it's not working then you expect some change in tactics or maturity. |

I'm as disappointed as anyone in the current state of affairs, but I don't see how being some kind of hermit fixes anything regardless of profession.
Next time I make a mistake, I'm going to turn into Tackleberry from Police Academy and start putting people's cigars out in non-smoking sections with a mini crossbow. |

Can I watch?
But I think it has more to do with a realistic evaluation of what your "down time" can do to your on ice play. Hermits they do not have to be. |

It's not like HF's private eye reported they never practice, feast on fried lard ten hours a day, and spend the remaining fourteen hours drinking beer and laughing at footage of disappointed fans (especially children). |

Of course. I doubt these players are out the night before a game drinking til 3am. If they are I would have an issue with that. The incident in question here is the Eagles game. Which was a day off for the team with no game the next day. |

I don't think what was reported there reflects poor commitment to the sport, though. I mean, when I have a bad day at work, I don't cancel my date for the evening and dump my liquor cabinet down the drain. I make sure I don't show up hungover, sure, but I do that even when work is going well. |

His name is Wiggins and hes the best prospect to come out since Lebron. Supposedly the top 3 are can't miss. Best NBA draft in 10 years |

The difference between surgeons and hockey players, is that hockey players' performance is inconsequential in the scheme of things... they don't get paid a ton of money because they hold the balance of life and death in their hands... they're merely entertainers in a society that places way too much value on entertainment.
Actors, musicians and other entertainers are hardly expected to not enjoy the trappings of fame... why the double-standard when it comes to athletes? As long as they show up to work in a reasonably functional state, and their bosses don't have any complaints about their performance, we as fans should be fine with whatever they choose to do with their free time. |
