Didn't read the whole thing, but I have to agree with you with the first part. This is someone with no statistical background. He should have done at least do a bit of research and you will found out there is a statistical formula that exists to determine the smallest possible sample size, based on the full size of the league, that can actually give meaning to your stats. And that's just the start of the research he should have done. This is class A crap stats!

Either do a better analysis or stfu. Griping from the sidelines contributes nothing better than what has already been done..

When looking at the standings, its pretty clear this anomaly is the result of the bottom four in the eastern conf. The bottom teams in the west are comprised of competitive DAL and WPG squads; CGY's off to a surprising start and then you have the oilers who are on the cusp of greatness... Right??? But it's the bottom four in the east that are swinging the stats. NJD got left high and dry by Kovy, while it may be better long term, their feeling the effects right now. WTF happened to Hank and the Rangers? They suck. Philly is doing their thing, im sure they'll figure it out eventually. The only team that truly concerns me is FLA. What direction is that franchise going in? Im confident within 2-3 years, the first three teams will be back on track and we'll look back on this as what it is. An anomaly. As for FLA, move em to Seattle!!! they want a team there, the conferences are lopsided, FLA has abysmal attendance and, I bet TBL would gain more support as a result. win win win win win from what I can see.
