Look, if you're going to tank, it had better before the closest thing to a can't miss you can get. The only one that fits that description over the next two drafts is McDavid. Anything else, and you become the Oilers and the Islanders, better, but nowhere near elite.

if instead of getting hank, they used that money to sign gilbert on d, brunner and raymond up front I am sure the team would be better on ice and there would be less of a need to get these kids up with the big club

My two cents is that the Sabres didn't want to be better this year, especially with bandaid signings. They really want to tank and probably traded for Hank because he wouldn't help to win but might help with Myers' head and to help develop the other young D.
